Artificial Intelligence Policy

Purpose and Scope
  • These principles aim to determine the ethical and academic standards regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific studies submitted to the Erciyes University Law Faculty Journal. These principles are based on best practices in line with international and national publishing standards such as COPE, ICMJE, WAME, STM, TÜBİTAK, and YÖK.
  • In the event of a conflict between artificial intelligence principles, priority is given to our journal's principles, followed by the principles of YÖK and TÜBİTAK, and finally the principles of COPE, ICMJE, WAME, and STM.
  • Artificial intelligence may support research processes in forms such as text editing, language control, data analysis, or similar methods; however, text cannot be generated, and scientific responsibility cannot be transferred. Authors are obliged to comply with the following principles when using artificial intelligence technologies:

Text Content and Originality
The complete drafting of scientific content, legal analysis, or conclusions by AI is unacceptable. It is unacceptable for a text claimed to be written by an author to have been generated by artificial intelligence.
AI-generated texts cannot be used directly or added to the work without citation.
Visuals, tables, or graphics created through AI are not acceptable unless their use is explicitly disclosed.

Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence
Authors may use AI tools only for supportive purposes. Acceptable examples of use include:
  • Grammar, spelling, and language review (Submitting whole manuscripts or large sections to AI tools may be flagged as AI use by plagiarism detection systems.)
  • Technical support for data analysis or classification
  • Formatting and reference list corrections
  • Generating ideas for research topics
  • Use of AI-generated data within manuscripts where artificial intelligence itself is the subject of the study(Even in such cases, the nature and extent of AI use must be clearly stated.)
  • All approved AI-generated content must be labeled clearly in figure captions or explanations with the statement: “Generated by artificial intelligence.”

Transparency and Disclosure Obligation
If authors use AI tools, they must disclose this in their author contribution statement and within the manuscript before the bibliography.
The disclosure must include:
  • The name and version of the AI tool used
  • The purpose of use (e.g., language assistance, data processing, etc.)
  • A statement confirming that the output was reviewed and verified by the author
Example Disclosure:
AI Use Disclosure
“In this study, ChatGPT (OpenAI) was used solely for language revision; all academic content was produced and verified by the author(s).”

Scientific Responsibility and Accountability
All opinions, evaluations, and conclusions in the article remain entirely the responsibility of the authors. AI tools:
  • Cannot be listed as co-authors
  • Cannot be used as the principal means of producing scientific content
  • Require full verification of outputs by the authors
(For example, references generated by AI may be fabricated and must be checked carefully.)

Copyright, Data Privacy, and Legal Compliance
Authors guarantee that any data submitted to AI systems:
  • Comply with copyright rules
  • Comply with personal data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR)
  • Do not violate confidentiality obligations
  • Authors must be aware that AI tools pose risks in terms of originality and copyright; ensuring originality remains the responsibility of the author.

Use of AI in Peer Review and Editorial Processes
Reviewers and editors may use AI tools; however:
  • Confidential review documents may not be uploaded to AI systems
  • Full manuscripts may not be uploaded to AI systems
  • Review reports or editorial decisions may not be drafted entirely by AI
  • AI may only be used for language refinement or limited analytical support

Violations and Sanctions
In case of violations:
  • The article review process may be suspended or rejected
  • Published articles may be retracted if violations are identified
  • Repeated violations may result in temporary bans on submitting to the journal
