The purpose of the study is to understand how cultural backgrounds of women artists, who have different cultural backgrounds, have been affected their professional career. In this context, the problem sentence of the study is “In Turkey how careers of women artists are affected by their cultural and social identities?” To address this research question techniques of qualitative research methods, data collection and data analysis are used. Within these methods, semi- structured talks have been accomplished with six women artists who have at least ten years of experience in the their professional field and have become prominent. Sample of the study comprises of women who work in fields of Turkish classical music, Turkish folk music and western music, based upon their different socio-cultural structures. Durations of the interwievs are on avarage thirty minutes. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result, in shaping of the professional career of interviewees who are assigned from the groups of Turkish classical music, Turkish folk music and the western music, their socio-cultural environments have the significant role and at this point, it has been observed that the most disadvantageous group is the group which comprises of women artists who work in the field of Turkish classical music and the most advantageous group is the group that comprises of women artists who developed their vocational career in the direction of western music.
