THE EFFECT OF PRODUCTIVE CAPACITIES COMPONENTS ON THE ECONOMIC GROWTH IN BRICS COUNTRIES: PANEL CANTILE REGRESSION ANALYSIS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to measure the productive capacities components-economic growth relationship in the BRICS countries in the period of 2000-2018 with panel quantile regression analysis. First of all, correlation test, multicollinearity test, normality tests and Hausman test were applied to perform panel quantile regression analysis. Autocorrelation tests and varying variance tests were applied to determine whether there were autocorrelation and varying variance problems in the models applied in different quantile bands (10th-90th) of the variables. It was determined that there were problems of autocorrelation and varying variance in the model and therefore the model was estimated with robust standart errors in the 50th quantile range and at the 5% significance level. As a result of estimating the model at 5% significance level with robust standard errors, the effects of productive capacities index components on economic growth in the BRICS countries in the 2000-2018 period are as follows; a 1% increase in natural capital reduces economic growth by 0.06%; 1% increase in energy increases economic growth by 0.13%; a 1% increase in transportation increases economic growth by 0.05%, a 1% increase in information and communication technology increases economic growth by 0.12%, a 1% increase in institutions increases economic growth by 0.07%, and a 1% increase in the private sector. increased economic growth by about 0.02%; It has been found that 1% increase in structural change reduces economic growth by 0.03%.

BRICS Ülkelerinde Üretken Kapasiteler Bileşenlerinin İktisadi Büyümeye Etkisi: Panel Kantil Regresyon Analizi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı BRICS ülkelerinde 2000-2018 döneminde üretken kapasiteler bileşenleri- iktisadi büyüme ilişkisini panel kantil regresyon analiziyle ölçmektir. Öncelikle panel kantil regresyon analizinin gerçekleştirilebilmesi için korelasyon testi, çoklu doğrusal bağlantı testi, normallik sınamaları ve Hausman testi uygulanmıştır. Değişkenlere ait farklı kantil bantlarında (10th-90th) uygulanan modellerde otokorelasyon ve değişen varyans sorunlarının olup olmadığının tespiti için otokorelasyon ve değişen varyans testleri uygulanmıştır. Modelde otokorelasyon ve değişen varyans sorunlarının olduğu tespit edilmiş ve bu yüzden model 50th kantil aralığında ve %5 anlamlılık seviyesinde dirençli hatalarla tahmin edilmiştir. Modelin dirençli standart hatalarla %5 anlamlılık düzeyinde tahmin edilmesi sonucunda BRICS ülkelerinde 2000-2018 döneminde üretken kapasiteler endeksi bileşenlerinin iktisadi büyümeye etkileri şu şeklidedir; doğal sermayedeki %1’lik artışın iktisadi büyümeyi %0.06 oranında azalttığı; enerjideki %1’lik artışın iktisadi büyümeyi %0.13 oranında artırdığı; ulaşımdaki %1’lik bir artışın iktisadi büyümeyi %0.05 oranında artırdığı, bilgi ve iletişim teknolojisindeki %1’lik artışın iktisadi büyümeyi %0.12 oranında artırdığı, kurumlardaki %1’lik artışın iktisadi büyümeyi %0.07 oranında artırdığı, özel sektördeki %1’lik artışın iktisadi büyümeyi %0.02 oranında artırdığı; yapısal değişimdeki %1’lik artışın ise iktisadi büyümeyi %0.03 oranında azalttığı bulgularına ulaşılmıştır.
