r. Aytekin Erdoğan is a faculty member in the Department of Archaeology, Division of Classical Archaeology, at the Faculty of Letters, Ege University. He completed his undergraduate studies in Archaeology at Ege University in 1988 and received his master’s degree from the same university’s Institute of Social Sciences in 1991 with a thesis titled “The Development of City Walls in Western Anatolia.” He earned his Ph.D. in 2003 at Ege University with the dissertation “The Rock Sanctuaries of Phokaia.” Dr. Erdoğan began his academic career in 1996 as a research assistant at Ege University, was appointed Assistant Professor in 2006, and has held the title of Doctor Lecturer since 2018. He has served as Vice Chair of the Department of Archaeology since 2011, a member of the Faculty Executive Board since 2018, and Deputy Director of the Institute since 2019. His research interests include Classical Archaeology, settlement archaeology of the Greek and Roman periods, architecture of the Hellenistic and Roman eras, and the study of necropoleis and sacred spaces. His work, particularly in Western Anatolia and the Caria region, has made significant contributions to the understanding of necropolis typologies, tomb architecture, and religious cult practices of the Hellenistic period. Dr. Erdoğan has participated in numerous archaeological excavations, including those at Milas, Tripolis, and Bayraklı. He has also directed several major research projects, such as “Early Iron Age Necropoleis of the Caria Region” (2017–2020), “Identification and Evaluation of Local Anatolian Traditions at the Bayraklı Mound during the Bronze Ages” (2018–2022), and “The Orpheus Relief of Tripolis” (2013–2014). Through these projects, he has played a leading role in systematically documenting burial traditions, sacred areas, and artistic production in Western Anatolia.

Lisans eğitimini Ege Üniversitesi Coğrafya Bölümünde 1986 yılında tamamladı. Ardından İstanbul Üniversitesi Deniz Bilimleri ve Coğrafya Enstitüsü Jeomorfoloji Anabilim Dalında 1988 yılında yüksek lisansını tamamladı. Bir süre özel sektörde jeomorfolog olarak çalıştı. 1990 yılında Ege Üniversitesi Coğrafya Bölümünde Araştırma Görevlisi olarak göreve başladı. Doktorasını Ege Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Fiziki Coğrafya programında 2002 yılında tamamladı. Aynı bölümde doçent ve profesör oldu. Halen aynı bölümde bölüm başkanı olarak görev yapmaktadır. Fiziki coğrafyanın çeşitli alanlarında 100'den fazla makalesi ve bildirisi bulunmaktadır.
