Sûfî Muhaddis Hakîm et-Tirmizî’nin Nevâdiru’l-usûl Adlı Eserindeki İşârî Yorumları

Abstract

Bu çalışma, hicrî üçüncü yüzyılda yaşamış; muhaddis, sûfî, hikmet ehli, ârif ve mütefekkir kimlikleriyle temayüz etmiş olan Hakîm et-Tirmizî’nin, hadis ve şerhlerine yer veren Nevâdiru’l-Usûl adlı eserinde bulunan bazı tasavvufî görüşlerini hadisler ışığında incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Hakîm, özellikle tasavvuf ile hadis ilmini mezceden özgün yaklaşımıyla İslâm düşünce tarihinde dikkat çeken nadir şahsiyetlerden biridir. Eserlerinde rivayet kültürü ile manevî tecrübe arasında kurduğu denge, onu yalnızca bir hadis âlimi değil, aynı zamanda sûfî epistemolojinin kurucu isimlerinden biri konumuna taşımıştır. İslâm düşüncesinde hadisler, Kur’ân-ı Kerîm’in ardından en önemli ikinci referans kaynağı olarak fıkhî ve itikadî meselelerin yanında ahlâkî ve manevî hayatın teşekkülünde de belirleyici bir rol oynamıştır. Özellikle tasavvufun ilk dönemlerinde Hz. Peygamber’in söz, fiil ve takrirleri, sûfîlerin ahlâk, zühd, nefs terbiyesi ve mânevî seyrüsülûk anlayışlarını şekillendirmede temel kaynak olmuştur. Bu çerçevede, hadislerin hem zahirî anlamları hem de bâtınî ve işârî yorumları sûfî düşüncenin oluşumunda önemli bir işlev görmüştür. Makale, bu bağlamda, erken dönem muhaddis sûfîlerinden biri olan Hakîm’in Nevâdiru’l-usûl adlı eseri üzerinden işârî hadis yorumlarını tahlil ederek, bu yöntem aracılığıyla tasavvufî düşüncesini nasıl temellendirdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Hakîm, hadis metinlerini yalnızca lafzî düzlemde değil, aynı zamanda derin mânevî boyutlarıyla değerlendirme çabası içinde olmuş; bu yaklaşımıyla klasik şerh geleneğinin ötesine geçerek tasavvufî yorum pratiğine metodolojik bir zemin oluşturmuştur. Nevâdiru’l-usûl, muhtevası ve yöntemi itibarıyla tasavvufî hadis şerh edebiyatının öncü eserlerinden biri olup, hadis ve sünneti zahir ve bâtın bütünlüğü içerisinde ele almakta ve Peygamberî mirasın kapsamlı ve zengin doğasını yansıtmaktadır. Sonuç olarak bu makalede, Nevâdiru’l-usûl’deki tasavvufî yorumlar özellikle yakîn, nefs, kalp ve ruh kavramları etrafında seçilen örnekler üzerinden değerlendirilerek, Hakîm et-Tirmizî’nin hadis merkezli tasavvuf anlayışının temel dinamikleri ortaya konulacaktır. Böylece, başlangıçta bir muhaddis olarak temayüz eden ve zamanla sûfî düşüncenin etkisiyle yorum ufkunu genişleten bu önemli âlimin, İslâm ilim geleneğine kazandırdığı özgün işârî şerh yöntemi analitik bir çerçevede incelenmiş olacaktır.

The Allegorical Interpretations in the Work Navādir al-Usūl by the Sufi Hadīth Scholar Hakīm al-Tirmidhī

Abstract

This study aims to examine, in the light of hadiths, certain Sufi views found in Nawâdir al-usul, a work by Hakîm al-Tirmidhî who lived in the third century of the Hijri calendar and distinguished himself with his multifaceted identity as a muhaddith, Sufi, sage, gnostic, and thinker. Hakîm is one of the rare figures in the history of Islamic thought who stands out for his original approach that combines Sufism with the science of hadith. The balance he established in his works between the culture of transmission and spiritual experience elevated him not only as a scholar of hadith but also as one of the founding figures of Sufi epistemology. In Islamic thought, hadiths, as the second most important source of reference after the Qur’an, have played a decisive role not only in jurisprudential and theological matters but also in the formation of ethical and spiritual life. Particularly in the early periods of Sufism, the sayings, actions, and approvals of the Prophet Muhammad served as fundamental references in shaping the Sufi understanding of ethics, asceticism, self-discipline, and spiritual journey. In this context, both the apparent meanings and the esoteric and allegorical interpretations of hadiths have fulfilled a vital function in the development of Sufi thought. Within this framework, the article analyzes the allegorical interpretation of hadiths (taʾwîl/ishârî tafsîr) in Hakîm al-Tirmidhî’s Nawâdir al-usul, one of the early examples of such an approach, and reveals how he grounded his Sufi thought through this method. Hakîm sought not only to interpret the hadiths on a literal level but also to uncover their spiritual and deeper dimensions. With this perspective, he transcended the classical tradition of hadith commentary and laid a methodological foundation for Sufi interpretive practice. Nawâdir al-usul, in terms of both its content and methodology, is regarded as a pioneering work in the field of Sufi hadith commentary. It approaches the hadith and Sunnah with an integrative perspective that embraces both the exoteric and esoteric dimensions, thereby reflecting the comprehensive and rich nature of the Prophetic legacy. In conclusion, this article will evaluate the Sufi interpretations found in Nawâdir al-usul through selected examples centered around the concepts of yaqîn, nafs, qalb, and ruh, thereby uncovering the fundamental dynamics of Hakîm al-Tirmidhî’s hadith-based Sufi understanding. Thus, the ishârî interpretive method developed by this prominent scholar -who initially gained prominence as a muhaddith and later expanded his interpretive horizon under the influence of Sufi thought- will be examined within an analytical framework, highlighting its contribution to the Islamic intellectual tradition.
