THE LEVEL OF TEACHERS' QUESTIONS AND STUDENTS' ANSWERS IN MATHS CLASSES

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study is to determine the compliance of the questions asked within the classroom during mathematics education of the class to the level of targets of teaching and the compliance of the answers given to those questions to the level of targets of teaching as well as the qualities of the questions asked within the classroom. Levels of the questions asked by the class teachers and the answers given by the students during mathematics classes of the 4th and the 5th grades at 5 different primary schools were specified by this study. Besides, quality and quantity of the questions were analyzed according to the method of addressing and answering during in-class teaching. As a result of our findings, it is concluded that the questions addressed by the teachers during mathematics classes are at the level of application by 46%, whereas questions at the level of knowledge and comprehension constitute 48% of the questions and the questions at the level of analysis, synthesis and evaluations requiring high level intellectual skills are only included by 6%. While it is observed that questions regarding affective field targets are not asked, it is also seen that the classes are rather conducted based on the questions of the teachers (95%) and the questions asked by the students to each other are not featured at classes. MATEMATİK DERSİNDE ÖĞRETMENLERİN DERS İÇİ YÖNELTİĞİ SORULAR VE ÖĞRENCİ CEVAPLARI DÜZEYİ

Abstract

Öz Bu çalışmanın amacı, matematik dersi sınıf öğretiminde sınıf içi sorulan soruların; öğretim hedeflerinin seviyesine uygunluğu, verilen cevapların öğretim hedefleri seviyesine uygunluğu ile sınıf içi soruların niteliklerini belirlemektir. Çalışmada 5 farklı İlköğretim okulunda, 4 ve 5. Sınıf matematik derslerinde, sınıf öğretmenlerinin sorduğu sorular ve öğrencilerin verdiği cevapların düzeyleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca, sınıf içi öğretimde cevaplama şekillerine göre ve yöneltilme biçimlerine göre soruların sayı ve niteliği incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre matematik derslerindeki öğretmen soruların % 46 oranında uygulama düzeyinde olduğu, bilgi ve kavrama düzeyinde ise % 48 oranında sorulara yer verildiği, üst düzey düşünme becerileri gerektiren analiz, sentez ve değerlendirme düzeyinde sorulara çok az (% 6) yer verildiği tespit edilmiştir. Duyuşsal alan hedefleri ile ilgili sorulara yer verilmediği gözlenirken, soruların yöneltilme biçimlerine göre derslerin daha çok (% 95) öğretmen sorularına dayalı olarak yürütüldüğü, öğrencilerin birbirlerine sorduğu sorulara yer verilmediği gözlenmiştir.
