Introduction: Developing submissive behaviors and
having low emotional intelligence adversely affect
personal development of an individual and cause a
decline in success. For this reason, it is important that
midwifery students should have high emotional
intelligence and low submissive behaviors in terms of
their personal and professional development.
Aim: This study aimed to determine midwifery
students' emotional intelligence, submissive behavior
levels, and the factors affecting them.
Method: The study was carried out in descriptive model.
The questionnaire forms were applied to 70 students.
Data were collected using an information form, the
Emotional Intelligence Evaluation Scale (EIES) and the
Submissive Acts Scale (SAS). Results: The emotional
intelligence level was found to be low in 45.7% of the
students, medium in 37.2%, and high in 17.1%. The
mean SAS score of the students was 123.57 + 32.54, and
the mean EIES score of the students was 34.8 + 7.02.
The difference between the mean scores of Emotional
Intelligence Evaluation Scale (EIES) and Submissive
Acts Scale (SAS) and the individual characteristics was
determined to be statistically insignificant (p> 0.05).
Conclusion: It was determined that a significant part of
the students had low emotional intelligence, and that
the mean SAS score was moderate.
