FRANCIS HUTCHESON VE GÜLME ÜZERİNE DÜŞÜNCELER

Öz

Modern dünyada gülme üzerine düşünme ortaya çıkan yeni toplum ve birey ile bağlantılıdır. Gülme felsefesinde özel bir yere sahip olan Hutcheson’nun bu üç mektubu felsefe ve gülme ilişkisi açısından fazlasıyla önem teşkil etmektedir. Her ne kadar Hutcheson’ın gülme üzerine düşünceleri Hobbes’a bir cevap verme şeklinde ortaya çıkmış olsa da aslında bu düşünceleri çağının bir ihtiyacı olarak görmek gerekir. Çünkü Hutcheson’nun içinde yaşadığı yeni dünyada bireyin toplumda davranışlarının kabul edilebilir kılınması için nelerin yapılması gerektiği her zamankinden daha önemli hale gelmiştir. Toplumsal yaşantıda nezaketin, esprinin ve güler yüzlülüğün kibar karşılaşmalar için ne kadar önemli olduğu artık felsefenin önemli bir parçası haline gelmiştir. Nasıl davranılması gerektiğinin tartışıldığı bir ortamda kaçınılmaz olarak gülme edimi de gündeme gelir. Çünkü gülmek, kendine hâkim olma ve nazik konuşma konusundaki kibar özlemlere meydan okuyan bir edimdir. Hutcheson’nun “Gülme Üzerine Düşünceler”ine odaklanmak gülmenin doğasına ilişkin taze bir soluk sunabileceği gibi o zamandan beri gülmeye ilişkin düşünümdeki değişimi görebilme imkânı da sunuyor.

HUTCHESON AND “REFLECTIONS ON LAUGHTER”

Abstract

Reflection on laughter in the modern world is linked to the emerging new society and individual. These three letters of Hutcheson, who have a special place in the philosophy of laughter, are extremely important in terms of the relationship between philosophy and laughter Although Hutcheson's reflections on laughter emerged as an answer to Hobbes, it should actually be seen as a need of his age. Because in the new world in which Hutcheson lives, it has become more important than ever what the individual should do to make her behavior acceptable in the society. The importance of politeness, humor and good humor for polite encounters in social life has now become an important part of philosophy. In a more narrow sense, politeness has been an important tool in research that delves into eighteenth-century disciplines of social interaction and the cultural codes that regulated appropriateness of not only speech, appearance, or bodily comportment, but also moral and social values. When discussing how to behave, laughter inevitably came to the fore. Because laughing is an act that defies polite aspirations for self-restraint and polite speech. Focusing on Hutcheson's "Reflections on Laughter" can offer a breath of fresh air on the nature of laughter, as well as an opportunity to see the change in my thinking about laughter since then.
