YENİ ÇAĞ BİLGİ FELSEFESİNDE DOĞAL DİLLERİN ELEŞTİRİSİ VE EVRENSEL DİL TASARIMI

Abstract

Yeni Çağ Avrupa’sında Kraliyet Derneği’nin kuruluşuyla birlikte modern bilimin oluşumunu takiben pek çok yapma dil boy göstermiştir. Bu diller, konuşulmakta olan dillerin bilişsel sınırlarını aşmak amacıyla modern bilimin verileri doğrultusunda dünyayı doğru bir biçimde yansıtacak bir araç olarak tasarlanmıştır. Kavramlarımızın yapısıyla uyumluluk ilkesi üzerine kurulu bu diller, böylelikle bilginin ilerlemesine hizmet etme iddiasındaydı. Felsefi dillerin tasarımı modern epistemolojide hem akılcı hem deneyci geleneğin benimsediği temelci bilgi anlayışına uygun olarak sınırlı sayıda bir ilksel kavramlar temelinde tutarlı ve sistematik bir mantıksal çıkarım zinciri aracılığıyla kavramlarımızın tamamını şeffaf bir bütün içinde düzenleyecek biçimde yapılmıştır. Yeni Çağ’da dil inşası çalışmaları dönemin Aristoteles metafiziğinin izlerini taşıyan taksonomik düşüncesinden etkilenmiştir. Rönesans ve modern bilimin ortaya çıkışının etkisiyle bu diller geleneksel dillerin yanıltıcı etkisine panzehir ve doğanın bilimsel kavrayışını ifade etmek üzere güncel bir araç olarak düşünülmüştür. Ampiristler dile, soyutlayıcı etkisi zihni deneyimin temel gerçekliğinden uzaklaştırarak yanılgılara sürüklediği gerekçesiyle kuşkuyla yaklaşırken rasyonalistler de matematiksel yöntemin mantıksal bütünlüğünü örnek alacak bir rasyonel dil üzerine düşünmüşlerdir. Yeni Çağ bilgi felsefesinde doğal dillere yönelik bu ortak kuşkuculuk gerçekliği olduğu şekliyle anlamaya yönelen yapma dil projelerine zemin hazırlamıştır.

CRITICISM OF NATURAL LANGUAGES AND UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE CREATION IN MODERN EPISTEMOLOGY

Abstract

Several constructed languages appeared in modern Europe following the emergence of modern science with the establishment of Royal Society. These languages were conceived as expressive tools to reflect the world correctly in the light of new scientific findings and aimed at overcoming the cognitive limits of spoken languages. They were based on the principle of adequacy with the structure of our concepts and claimed to serve the advancement of knowledge. Following the foundationalist conception of knowledge adopted by both rationalists and empiricists in modern epistemology, they were constructed on the basis of a limited number of so-called primitive concepts in a way that systematizes the totality of our concepts into a consistent whole through a transparent chain of logical inferences. Language construction works of the modern era are influenced by the taxonomic thinking of the day inherited by the metaphysics of Aristotle. In the aftermath of Renaissance and the scientific revolution, these languages were thought as an antidote to the misleading effect of natural languages and an up-to-date tool to express the scientific understanding of nature. While empiricists were sceptical about language because of its abstracting power that takes the mind away from the experienced reality, rationalists speculated on a rational language modeled on the logical consistency of the mathematical method. This common scepticism about natural languages in modern epistemology motivated projects of language construction that aimed at understanding the reality as it is.
