ŞÖLEN’DE FENOMENOLOJİNİN İZLERİ: SOKRATES BİR FENOMENOLOG OLABİLİR Mİ?

Abstract

ÖZ Antik Çağ’da fenomenolojinin kökenlerinin izini sürmeye çalışan bu makalenin amacı, fenomenoloji ile Sokratik sorgulama arasındaki benzerliklerin ortaya çıkarılmasıdır. Bu bağlamda her iki felsefe yapma biçiminin kendine özgü metodolojik araçlarının ortak bir paydada buluşabileceğini gösterebilmek adına, Sokrates’in akıl yürütme tarzının bir tür epokhe ve fenomenolojik indirgemeyi ima ettiği iddia edilmektedir. Sokratik sorgulamanın erotik doğasının sağladığı thaumazein’in (felsefi bir merak ve hayret) fenomenolojik betimleme ile benzerliğinin ortaya konulması fenomenolojinin “şeylerin kendilerine geri dönüş çağrısını” kavrayabilmek açısından önemli bazı noktalara işaret etmektedir. Zira Sokratik anlamda bilgisizliğin itirafı, tam da fenomenin kendini ifşa etmesi için gereklidir. Bu bağlamda Sokratik sorgulamanın performatif doğası ile fenomenolojik indirgeme birbirine benzerdir ve her ikisi de aletheia’nın gün yüzüne çıkarılmasına ve otantik bir yaşamın gerçekleştirilmesine zemin hazırlamaktadır. Fenomenolojinin odak noktası olan yaşanmış deneyimin, Sokratik hakikat arayışının da bir parçası olduğunu ortaya koymayı hedefleyen bu çalışma, Şölen diyaloğunda söz konusu iddiaları somutlaştırmaya çalışmaktadır. Böylece Sokrates’in aşk merdivenini (scala amori) fenomenolojik bir perspektiften inceleyerek fenomenoloji ile Sokratik diyalektiğin metodojik anlamda benzerlikler paylaştığı ortaya konulmak istenmektedir.

TRACES OF PHENOMENOLOGY IN THE SYMPOSIUM: COULD SOCRATES BE A PHENOMENOLOGIST?

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this article, which tries to trace the origins of phenomenology in ancient era, is to reveal the similarities between phenomenology and Socratic questioning. In this context, in order to show that the unique methodological tools of both ways of doing philosophy can meet on a common denominator, it is claimed that Socrates’ reasoning implies a kind of epoche and phenomenological reduction. Revealing the similarities between thaumazein (a philosophical curiosity and wonder) provided by the erotic nature of Socratic questioning and phenomenological description points to some important views in terms of understanding the call of phenomenology to “return to the things themselves.” Because the confession of ignorance in the Socratic sense is necessary for the phenomenon to reveal itself. In this context, the performative nature of Socratic questioning and phenomenological reduction are similar to each other, and both serve as a ground for the unearthing of aletheia and the realization of an authentic life. This study, which aims to reveal that lived experience, which is the focus of phenomenology, is also a part of the Socratic search for truth, tries to concretize the claims in question in the dialogue called The Symposium. Thus, by examining Socrates’ ladder of love (scala amori) from a phenomenological perspective, it is aimed to reveal that phenomenology and Socratic dialectics share methodological similarities.
