KSENOPHON’UN SOKRATES’İ KİMDİR?

Abstract

Çalışmamızda Ksenophon’un eserlerinde Sokrates’in nasıl konumlandırıldığı üzerinde duracağız. Bu bağlamda onun kendi içerisinde tutarlı bir Sokrates imajı oluşturup oluşturmadığı sorusuna yanıt arayacağız. Savunacağımız tez, Ksenophon’un Sokrates’inin varlığa yönelik akıl yürüten bir filozof olmadığıdır. Yani onun Sokrates’i varlığa dair nazarî tartışmalar yürütmeyen, bu konularda aklın yetersiz olduğunu söyleyen ve ancak tanrılara danışarak varlığa dair bilgi sahibi olabileceğimizi anlatan birisidir. Ksenophon’un Sokrates’i ruhunda uyumu yakalayan kimsedir ve herkesin bunu yapabileceğini düşündüğü için ruhtaki uyumla birlikte ortaya çıkan güzelliğin pazarlayıcısıdır. Bu güzelliğe aşkla yönelen insanların mesleklerinden asılı olmayarak başarılı olacaklarını ve iyi ve güzel kimselere dönüşeceklerini beyan eden bir Sokrates’le karşı karşıyayız. Bu bağlamda Ksenophon’un Sokrates’i Delphoi kehanetine yani en bilge kimsenin kendisi olduğuna dair Apollon’un sözlerine, herkesin ruhunda uyumu yakalamaları sebebiyle onun gibi olabileceği için şaşırır.
Makalemizde Ksenophon’un Sokrates’le ilgili olan eserlerini hermenötik yaklaşımla metinlerarası bir şekilde irtibatlı olarak yorumlayacağız. Türkçe felsefe literatüründe Ksenophon’un Sokrates’inin nasıl biri olduğunu ele alan bir çalışmanın olmaması dolayısıyla makalemizin bu alana katkı yapacağını umuyoruz.

WHO IS XENOPHON'S SOCRATES?

Abstract

In my study i will focus on the manner in which Socrates is positioned in Xenophon's works. In this context, the objective is to ascertain whether the subject has successfully established a consistent image of Socrates within himself. The central argument of this article is that Xenophon's Socrates is not a philosopher who engages in theoretical contemplation of existence. In summary, the Socrates portrayed is not one who engages in theoretical discourses concerning existence; rather, he is depicted as an individual who asserts the inadequacy of reason in such matters. The assertion is made that human beings are only capable of acquiring knowledge about existence through consultation with deities. Xenophon's Socrates is someone who has achieved harmony in his soul, and he believes that everyone can do the same. He is a promoter of the beauty that comes with harmony in the soul. Socrates declares that people who are attracted to this beauty with love will be successful regardless of their profession and will become good and beautiful people. Xenophon's Socrates is surprised by Apollo's words in the Delphic oracle, namely that he is the wisest man, because everyone can become like him by achieving harmony in their souls.
In this article, an intertextual hermeneutic approach will be employed to interpret Xenophon's works on Socrates. In the absence of any study in Turkish philosophical literature that examines the identity of Xenophon's Socrates, it is hoped that this article will contribute to this field
