THE RELATIONSHİP BETWEEN ETHICS, THE SUBJECT, AND THE SYMBOLIC ORDER IN ŽIŽEK’S THOUGHT

Abstract

This study examines the relationships between ethics, the subject, and the symbolic order in Žižek’s thought. According to Žižek, ethics is defined by the individual’s fidelity to their own desire and internal consistency, whereas morality is constrained by the norms governing relations with others; ethical action cannot be explained solely by social or rational criteria, emerging instead as an original and conflictual process. The subject is not a fixed entity but a divided, fragile, and multilayered structure; desire-objects and the subject’s structural lack shape experiences and actions. Analyses of the symbolic and imaginary orders alongside interventions of the Real reveal the paradoxical structure of the subject and the conditions of ethical action. Žižek enriches analyses initiated in modern philosophy regarding the cogito and the notion of absolute subject with a psychoanalytic perspective, offering a profound interpretation of the subject’s division and its relation to desire. Consequently, ethics and the subject are understood as processes of continuous tension and repositioning between the limits of the symbolic order and the effects of the Real.

ŽIŽEK DÜŞÜNCESİNDE ETİK, ÖZNE VE SİMGESEL DÜZEN İLİŞKİSİ

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Žižek düşüncesinde etik, özne ve simgesel düzen arasındaki ilişkileri inceler. Žižek’e göre etik, bireyin kendi arzusuna ve içsel tutarlılığına sadakatiyle belirlenirken, ahlak başkalarıyla kurulan ilişkilerin normlarıyla sınırlıdır; etik eylem toplumsal veya rasyonel ölçütlerle açıklanamaz, özgün ve çatışmalı bir süreç olarak ortaya çıkar. Özne, sabit bir varlık değil, bölünmüş, kırılgan ve çok katmanlı bir yapı olarak tanımlanır; arzu nesneleri ve öznenin yapısal eksiklikleri deneyimlerini ve eylemlerini şekillendirir. Simgesel ve imgesel düzen ile Gerçek’in müdahaleleri, öznenin paradoksal yapısını ve etik eylemin koşullarını görünür kılar. Žižek, modern felsefede cogito ve mutlak özne tartışmalarıyla başlatılan analizleri psikanalitik perspektifle zenginleştirerek, öznenin bölünmüşlüğü ve arzu ilişkileri üzerine derinlemesine bir yorum sunar. Böylece Žižek’e göre etik ve özne, simgesel düzenin sınırları ve Gerçek’in etkileri arasında sürekli bir gerilim ve yeniden konumlanma süreci olarak kavranır.
