OTANTİK KENDİLİĞİN OLANAĞI

Abstract

Otantik [authentic] kendilik felsefe ve psikolojinin yoğun bir şekilde üzerine eğildiği bir konudur. Bu çalışmada Heidegger ve Bergson gibi iki düşünür ile Psikanalizin kurucusu Freud’un konuya yaklaşımlarını ele alıyoruz. Saptamaya çalıştığımız ilk şey, otantik anlamda kendiliğin olanaklı olup olmadığıdır. Eğer olanaklı ise, bu olanağın nasıl ortaya çıkarılabileceği, neden çok az insanda açığa çıktığı ve ortaya çıkmasının önündeki engellerin neler olduğu cevaplamaya çalıştığımız diğer sorulardır. Heidegger’e göre “otantik ben”e erişimimizin önündeki engel “herkes” [das man]; Bergson’a göre dışsal/mekânsal olandır. Freud için ise bu engelin üst ben [superego] olduğunu tespit ediyoruz. Bu üç düşünürde de, “otantik ben”e erişimin imkânını gösterebilmek, kelimenin gerçek anlamında “ben olmayan” [not I] ile aramıza mesafe koymamızı şart koşar. “Ben olmayan”la aramıza mesafe koymak, dışsal olandan kopmak, içimizdeki kontrol mekanizmasından sıyrılmak ne kadar mümkündür? Bunlar sahiden, otantik benliğimizi ortaya çıkarmaya yeter mi? Bu üç düşünürün, “otantik ben”in önünde engel olarak gördüklerini saptadığımız şey aynı potada eritilebilir mi? Otantik benlikten ne anlamalıyız? Bu çalışmada yukarıdaki soruları etraflıca ele alıp cevaplamaya girişiyoruz.

THE POSSIBILITY OF AUTHENTIC SELF

Abstract

The notion of authentic self is a theme toward which psychology and philosophy direct particular attention. In this paper, we treat this notion through the thoughts of two philosophers, namely Heidegger and Bergson, as well as Freud, the founder of Psychoanalysis. What we attempt to determine first is whether the authentic self is possible. We also answer other questions like how it is possible; why this phenomenon is so rare; and what hindrance it faces to get unlocked. On Heidegger’s account, this hindrance is “the they” [das man]; on Bergson’s, it is what is external/spatial. We recognize that, in Freud, it is nothing other than “superego”. Thus, we assert that – for all the three philosophers – to get access to the authentic self, we must distance ourselves from what is “not I”. However, is it really possible to break with “not I”; to dissociate ourselves from external; and to outstrip the inner control mechanism of ours? Are these really enough for us to unfold our authentic selves? Can these three “things” – the three thinkers take as hindrances – be met on the common ground? What should we understand by the authentic self? This paper also attempts to answer the above questions thoroughly.
