In this paper, it is investigated the resembling sides of Levinas’ philosophy and “the relationship between ‘I’ and ‘the other’ in the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman’s film Persona. The paper aims to articulate that there is an identification for one to one relation between two woman characters in the movie with the concept of responsibility in the context of Levinas.“I” who coming across with the other one’s face prefer to take out his/her persona and go away from the role and the responsibilities insisted by the society. So, “I” is becoming with the existence of the other continuously. The only way to approach to himself for the “I” is eyes of the other. According to Levinas, the other is so strange that there is no any concept can define it with any relation. Thus, “I” can not understand it by using any concept. The other appears for the “I” with his/her face without any mask; the face escapes any kind of conceptual production. The face is meaningful with itself and it expresses the infinity. As a result in this paper it is argued that the subject realizes his existence only in a face to face relation
Bu makalede İsveçli yönetmen Ingmar Bergman’ın Persona filminde karşımıza çıkan “ben ve öteki” ilişkisinin Levinas’ın felsefesiyle benzer yanları incelenmektedir. Makale, söz konusu filmde iki kadın karakterin ilişkisinin, Levinasçı anlamda sorumluluk duygusuyla birebir örtüştüğünü öne sürmektedir. Ötekinin yüzüyle karşılaşan ben, persona’sını yüzünden çıkararak, toplumun kendisine dayattığı rol ve sorumluluklardan uzaklaşmayı tercih eder. Böylece ben, ötekinin varlığıyla sürekli ve yeniden oluşur. Ben’in kendisine yaklaşabilmesinin biricik yolu, ötekinin gözleridir. Levinas’a göre öteki, varolan hiçbir kavramla ilişkilendirilemeyecek kadar yabancıdır. Bu yüzden ben, onu herhangi bir kavramın içine yerleştirerek anlayamaz. Öteki, ben’in karşısına maskesiz olan yüzüyle çıkar; yüz her türlü kavramsallaştırmadan kaçar. Yüz kendi başına anlamlıdır ve sonsuzu ifade eder. Sonuç olarak bu çalışmada öznenin, ancak yüz yüze bir ilişkide kendi varoluşunu gerçekleştirebileceği savunulmuştur
