ÖĞRETİM ELEMANLARININ FİZİKSEL AKTİVİTE DÜZEYLERİNİN BELİRLENMESİ VE BAZI DEĞİŞKENLER AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ

Year 2007, Volume: 12 Issue: 3, 11 - 24, 15.07.2007

Abstract

DETERMINING THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVEL OF ACADEMICIANS AND EXAMINING IT RELATED TO SOME VARIABLES

Year 2007, Volume: 12 Issue: 3, 11 - 24, 15.07.2007

Abstract

In this survey type research, which was aimed to examine the physical activity level (PAL) of academicians, who are assumed to have highest education level, related to some variables. Randomly selected 752 academicians, working currently in the central faculties of the universities in Ankara, participated in this research. Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study Physical Activity Questionnaire, created by Blair, was used to determine the physical activity level and patterns of the research group during the last three months and the frequency, percentage and differences in the physical activity level were examined according to their gender, age, marital status, having a child, completing a post graduate programme in abroad, academical degree, monthly income and body mass index. Because participants in this study reported their height and weight values to the questionn aires, body mass index values of them were calculated regarding to those reports. According to the results women’s physical activity level were significantly lower than men. Although there were not any significant differences between physical activity levels and age, having a child and academical levels, it was seen that as the age and academical degree rose, the physical activity level also increased. There was a significant difference in the physical activity level of academicians who had high monthly income. In this research no significant difference was seen between obese and normal weight academicians’ physical activity level.
