Writing Rules

Gazi Journal of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (GaziJPESS) is a refereed and scientific journal published four times a year (January, April, July, October) by Gazi University Faculty of Sports Sciences. Gazi Journal of Physical Education and Sports Sciences includes publications in the fields of physical education and sports (Physical Education and Sports Education, Movement and Training Sciences, Sports Health Sciences, Psycho-Social Areas in Sports, Sports Management Sciences and Recreation).

Submitted articles must not have been published anywhere before. In addition, a plagiarism program must be used in article submissions and the similarity rate must not exceed 15%. Relevant reports must be uploaded to the system in article submissions.

In articles presented at any symposium or congress, the name, place and date of the congress must be stated. In studies supported by a research institution or fund, the name of the supporting institution and project number must be given.

Articles subjected to preliminary evaluation by the editors are sent to at least two referees to be examined in terms of content and format. Articles requested to be corrected by the referees are sent back to the author for the necessary changes. It is the author's responsibility to deliver the corrected text to the journal within the specified period. The corrected text is reviewed again by the referees who requested the changes if necessary.

In texts, in-text references and in creating bibliography, tables and figures, the APA 6 writing principles published by the American Psychological Association should be taken as basis.

The publication rights after acceptance and all copyrights after publication of articles sent to the journal belong to Gazi Physical Education and Sports Sciences Journal.

In order for articles sent to the journal to be reviewed, the following conditions must be met:

* The authors are responsible for the thoughts expressed in the articles.

* Articles published in GaziJPESS can only be quoted by citing the source. The person or organization making the quote and publishing the article are legally responsible for any distortions that may occur in the content of the article.

* Articles sent to GaziJPESS are not returned whether they are published or not.

* The Editorial Board may change any words it deems necessary in the article.
* Articles that do not comply with the rules will not be published.

* No fee is paid for articles published in GaziJPESS.

* It is mandatory for the researcher to keep the data of each published research for 5 years. In accordance with our publication policy, the data and analysis programs of some articles may be requested from the authors from time to time.

Writing Format

* The article should be written with the Microsoft Word software program in Calibri font, leaving 1.5 cm margins and not exceeding 20 pages excluding the references.

* Texts should be prepared according to the Writing Template in the forms section.

* The spelling guide of the Turkish Language Association should be taken as an example in the articles, and Turkish words should be used instead of foreign words as much as possible.

* Articles should include the title, abstract (Turkish and English), keywords, main text, author notes (if necessary), correspondence address, sources and appendices (if necessary) sections.

I. Article metadata:

The article title, consisting of a maximum of 10-12 words, should include the author(s) name, surname, institution information, ORCID numbers, responsible author information (title and e-mail address) and Ethics information.

II. Abstract and keywords:
The Turkish and English summaries of the research should cover the purpose of the research, the method of the research, the results of the research and the main recommendations made. Summaries should be single paragraph and justified, not exceeding 250 words in both languages ​​under the titles ‘Summary’ and ‘Abstract’. Summaries should include the purpose, sample, data collection tools, procedure, data analysis, brief findings and conclusion sentence. Key words (between 3 and 6) should be given under the Turkish abstract under the title ‘Keywords’ and under the English abstract under the title ‘Keywords’.

III. Main text:
In research articles, the text should consist of the introduction, method, findings, discussion and conclusion sections, respectively. In compilation type articles, this order may not be followed depending on the content of the article. The main text should start with the subheading “Introduction”. The Method, Findings, Discussion and Conclusion sections do not start on a new page; after one section ends, the other follows on the same page.

Introduction: In this section, the problem and the theoretical or conceptual framework of the research should be presented with their justifications. The hypotheses to be tested and their basis should be specified or the purpose of the research should be stated. While doing this, instead of quoting paragraphs from other sources, the researcher should create the logic of the text with his/her own words, express opinions through indirect quotations, and provide sources that support, oppose or remain neutral to an opinion. Of course, direct quotations can also be made when necessary. A logical order should be followed, from general to specific, from past to present or something else. Definitions, abbreviations, assumptions and limitations, if any, should be presented in this section with their justifications. This section of the research can be given as a whole or, if necessary, under subheadings.

Method: The method to be followed in the research should be expressed in a clear and understandable language that will allow for the repetition of the research. This information should include the type of research, design, universe and sample, data collection tools, data collection format and how the data will be analyzed. If the justifications for the method to be followed are not discussed in the problem section, they should definitely be discussed here. Information should be provided on the characteristics, development, validity and reliability of data collection tools. The statistical techniques used in the analysis of data, the purpose of use and the levels of significance used should be specified. The subheadings of this section can be determined by the author according to the type of research. In addition, information on Ethics Committee/Commission approvals/permissions (ethics committee name, date and number) must be provided in this section.

Findings: It should include the statistical analyses used to test the hypotheses of the research, the mean and standard deviation values ​​of each variable. Tables and figures should be given in the text. The information given in the tables should not be repeated verbatim in writing; special situations that attract attention in the table should be indicated. The table text and table number should be given above the table and aligned to the left, and the table title should be written right next to the table number. In the table title, only the first letter of the first word should be capitalized, other words should start with lower case letters and continue. Tables should be prepared in Word, there should be no vertical lines in the tables and APA 6 rules should be followed regarding where the horizontal lines should be. The figure number and figure title should be placed below the figure. Expenses related to figures and photographs requiring special printing are covered by the author.

Discussion: It should include the explanation and discussion of the research findings in light of the literature.

Conclusion and recommendations: A result that is appropriate for the purpose of the research and is a response to it should be presented. The result must be based on the findings and can be explained with them. Application and research recommendations should be included in the light of the findings of this research and the results reached.

Author's note: If the research is a thesis study or a paper presented at a symposium/congress, the necessary information should be included in this section. In addition, the names of the institution(s) supporting the research or the people who contributed to the research and, if desired, expressions of thanks can be stated in this section.

Financial Sources: It must be stated in this section whether any financial support was received from financial institutions and/or organizations during the preparation and writing of the article.

Conflict of Interest: There is no conflict of interest between the authors regarding the publication of this article.
Author Contributions: Information regarding the contributions of the authors mentioned in the article to the study (research idea/scope, design; data collection, data analysis, source review, article writing, critical review, etc.) should be provided in this section. This information can be edited by the authors depending on the type and design of the research.

References: It should start on a new page. All sources cited in the text should be included in the ‘References’ list. APA 6 writing principles should be used as a basis for citing sources.
