Abstract

In this study, parent-child relationship in predicting behavior problems was examined. The study group of the research, which was conducted in the survey model, consisted of parents of 7-10 year old children studying in official primary schools affiliated to Kırklareli Provincial Directorate of National Education. A total of 415 parents participated in the study. In the study, "Personal Information Form" was used to obtain information about the socio-demographic characteristics of the children, "Parent-Child Relationship Scale" was used to evaluate the parent-child relationship, and "Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Parent Form" was used to determine behavioral problems. The findings of the study show that parent-child relationship has a significant effect on children's behavioral problems (p<.01). While negative experiences such as conflict, mistrust and lack of communication between parents and children lead to behavioral problems in children, positive parent-child relationships with love, support and understanding reduce children's behavioral problems.
