The Effect of Quality of Work Life Among Employees in the Insurance Sector on Their Work Engagement

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impact of perceived quality of work life on employees’ work engagement in the insurance industry. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to insurance sector employees in the provinces of Amasya, Çorum, Samsun, and Tokat, located in the Central Black Sea Region. Multiple statistical methods were used in the data analysis process. In the first stage, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied using the LISREL program to verify the factor structure of the measurement instruments. As a result of the CFA, the model's fit indices were evaluated, the relationship between the items and the relevant factors was examined, and the model's validity was tested. In the second stage of the analysis, the data were transferred to SPSS. In this context, descriptive statistics for the research variables, reliability analyses, and multiple regression analyses were conducted to determine the relationships between the variables. The findings revealed that three sub-dimensions of quality of work life—Opportunity to Develop Human Capacities, Social Relevance of Work, and Adequate and Fair Compensation—significantly influenced work engagement. Together, all sub-dimensions of quality of work life explained 43.6% of the variance in work engagement. Demographic analyses further indicated that single employees reported higher perceptions of quality of work life than married employees, while those aged 45 and above showed higher levels of work engagement. Additionally, employees with 11 or more years of seniority reported both greater perceptions of quality of work life and stronger work engagement. Based on these findings, several recommendations were proposed for researchers and practitioners.
