The aim of the study is to investigate teachers’ opinions regarding the difficulties they encountered in children who started primary school between the ages of 60-66 months in basic reading and writing teaching. The research was carried out in 23 teachers who teach first grade level in Ordu city center in 2012-2013 educational year. The research is based on qualitative data analysis. In the study open-ended survey scales was developed for determining teachers’ opinions. It was concluded that the teachers encountered difficulties about school readiness, basic writing and reading program and the upper age groups educated in the same class. It was recommended that theoretical and empirical researches to be conducted about basic reading and writing program in order to evaluate for 60-66 months students. It was recommended that educational support should be given to 60-66 months old students.
