Writing Rules

ARTICLE PREPARATION

Language: Turkish, English, Uzbek, and Russian
Types of Articles: Research Article, Review Article, Theoretical Article.

ARTICLE FORMAT

Visual Format: A4 Portrait, Margins (Normal) (2.5 cm on all sides [right-left-top-bottom])

ABSTRACT

Abstract should be prepared in 10 pt, single-spaced, Times New Roman font. Abstract should not use citations and should be a single paragraph. Studies written as full text in Turkish must have an English title and “Abstract”. Since a Turkish text becomes a longer text in English, the Abstract should be at least 100 words and the Abstract should be at most 250 words. For authors whose mother tongue is not Turkish, Turkish title, abstract and keywords are not mandatory for English articles. In Turkish and English articles, “Keywords” should be given immediately below the “Abstract” section, with each word starting with a capital letter. “Keywords” should be used as the equivalent of ‘Keywords’ in English articles.

EXTENDED SUMMARY

In order to facilitate the citation of articles published in HABITUS Journal of Sociology and to increase the citation impact value, articles published in HABITUS Journal of Sociology should include an extended English abstract of at least 700 words, which corresponds to 10% of the Turkish articles. This text should be in Times New Roman font and in 12-point font under the “CONCLUSION” and above the “REFERENCES”. Likewise, this text should briefly mention the question of the study, hypothesis (if any), purpose, scope, methodology and data collection technique of the study, and then should include the findings of the study and finally the most striking interpretation of these findings in order to facilitate researchers' citation. Extended abstracts are not required for English articles.

TEXT STRUCTURE AND CITATION

Manuscripts to be submitted to the journal should be Times New Roman, 12 Punto. Line spacing options should be set to 6 pt before and after paragraph spacing and 1.5 line spacing should be selected. The introduction and all subheadings under it and the first paragraphs following these subheadings should start justified on the left margin. The margins should be 2.5 cm on all sides, that is, the page structure should be automatically set to Normal. The title of the English and Turkish abstract should be centered. Submitted manuscripts must comply with the citation and bibliography system specified in the journal writing guide. The text of the article should not exceed 14,000 words including references and other appendices. On the other hand, if a paragraph (block) citation is given in the text, it should be written in 11-point font size, single-spaced, justified and indented 1.25 from both right and left. Quotation marks should be used at the beginning and end of block quotations. In this way, the quotation and the text will be easily distinguished. The text of the article should not be sectioned, divided into sections or cut.

ARTICLE TITLE AND SUB-TITLES

In Turkish articles, the title of the article should not exceed 16 words, each word should be capitalized, written in black (bold) and 16-point font and centered. The title in English should be written in black (bold) with the initial letter of each word capitalized but in 10-point font and centered. All words of subheadings other than INTRODUCTION, CONCLUSION and REFERENCES should be written in black (bold) with only the initial letter capitalized and the rest in lower case and all in 12-point font. In addition, except in cases of bulleted information, no heading should be numbered using numbers. Turkish abstract, title and keywords are not required for English articles. Native Turkish authors are advised to do so. Author information (to be added after the corrections in the refereeing process) should be written immediately below the title with the first initial capitalized and the full surname capitalized right justified, and address, contact, work and orcid information should be given in the footnote with an asterisk (not a number!).

FOOTNOTES AND ENDNOTES

In the in-text citation style, the use of footnotes and endnotes is not preferred. Therefore, as few footnotes as possible should be used. Only when a very essential explanatory note is required, a footnote can be used with asterisks or numbers in Times New Roman font in 10-point font size. The in-text citation method recommends using “&” instead of “and” in citations and references. However, since the “&” symbol is not used instead of “and” in Turkish, the “&” symbol should not be used in Turkish texts when writing citations and references. It is also recommended to use the in-text citation method “et al.” (Kernis et al. 1993) when citing texts with more than three authors. However, if the study sent to HABITUS Journal of Sociology for evaluation is prepared in English, the symbol “&” should be used instead of “and” and “et al.” should be used instead of “et al.” in these texts in accordance with the in-text citation method in citation and bibliography.

GUIDELINES FOR CITATION AND REFERENCES

Reference Style: Habitus Journal follows the APA 6 system. For matters not found in the style guide, refer to APA 6 version. URL: http://www.apa.org

Paragraph spacing should be 6 pt before and after with regard to the line spacing options for the references and the “single” line spacing should be selected. Moreover, the references should be written with a “hanging/1.25 cm” indent. For articles in English, the expression “References” should be preferred rather than “Bibliography”.

Automatic bibliography should not be done unless necessary. Otherwise, it is not possible to intervene in this bibliography and make corrections on it. References should not be taken from Google Scholar. Even if it is taken, it must be completed. Because these resources are lacking. If the Doi numbers of the articles in the bibliography are available, they must be included in the bibliography. In online sources, access date information should be included in the Bibliography.
