Publication Ethics Statement
HADITH follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive. All parties to the publication process (publisher, editors, reviewers and authors) are expected to comply with these principles. Suspected misconduct is handled according to the COPE flowcharts.
Breaches of Research and Publication Ethics
Plagiarism: Presenting the ideas, methods, data or works of others, in whole or in part, as one's own without proper citation.
Fabrication: Using data that do not exist or have been falsified, or presenting research that was not carried out as if it had been.
Falsification: Altering research records or data, excluding data that do not fit the hypothesis, or shaping results in line with the interests of supporting persons or institutions.
Duplicate publication: Publishing the same study in more than one venue, or submitting it to more than one journal simultaneously.
Salami slicing: Dividing the results of a single study into parts in a way that damages its integrity and presenting them as separate publications.
Unjustified authorship: Listing persons who made no contribution, omitting those who did, or changing the order of authors without justification.
Other breaches: Failing to acknowledge the persons and institutions that supported the research; sharing information from a manuscript under review with others before publication; making unfounded and deliberate allegations of misconduct.
Where any of these is identified, the manuscript is rejected; if already published, it is retracted and, where necessary, the author's institution is notified.
Ethics Committee Approval and Permissions
Ethics committee approval is required for the following types of research:
Qualitative and quantitative studies that collect data from participants through surveys, interviews, focus groups, observation or experiments,
Studies that use human subjects, or data and material belonging to them, for scholarly purposes,
Retrospective studies falling within the scope of personal data protection legislation.
The approval details (committee name, date, number) are stated on the first page and in the methods section of the manuscript, and the approval document is uploaded as a supplementary file. Permission must be obtained from the owners for the use of scales, questionnaires, photographs, tables and similar material belonging to others, and this must be stated in the manuscript.
Responsibilities of Editors
Evaluate manuscripts solely on scholarly merit, originality and relevance to the journal's scope; the author's identity, institution, nationality, gender, belief or political opinion has no bearing on decisions.
Make editorial decisions independently of the publisher and of third parties.
Do not share information about a submission with anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers and the editorial board, and do not use unpublished material in their own research.
Do not handle manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
Ensure that every manuscript is evaluated by at least two expert reviewers and that reviewer identities remain confidential.
Investigate every allegation of misconduct, even when it is raised years after publication.
Responsibilities of Authors
Submit original work that has not been published and is not under consideration elsewhere.
Cite all sources, including their own earlier publications, in accordance with the ISNAD Citation Style, 2nd edition.
List as authors only those who made a genuine contribution; the corresponding author confirms that all authors have approved the final text. After submission, the author list and order may not be changed without the written consent of all authors.
In keeping with double-blind review, include no information in the manuscript file that would reveal the authors' identity.
Disclose conflicts of interest and all financial support; for multi-authored manuscripts, upload the conflict of interest and author contribution form.
State in a first-page footnote when a manuscript is derived from a thesis or a conference paper.
For critical editions and translations, obtain the copyright permissions relating to the source text; legal responsibility in this respect rests with the author or translator.
Provide the raw data of the study to the editor on request.
Respond to reviewer and editor requests within the time allowed. Manuscripts not revised within the given period are removed from the review process.
Inform the editor promptly on discovering a significant error in a published work and cooperate in its correction or retraction.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Review objectively, with reasons, and in a way that helps the author improve the work; personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
Treat the manuscript as a confidential document and as the intellectual property of its author; do not share its content or use it for personal advantage. This obligation also applies to those who decline the invitation to review.
Decline, and inform the editor, when the manuscript falls outside their expertise or cannot be reviewed on time.
Point out relevant published work that has not been cited, and report any substantial similarity to other work.
Inform the editor when plagiarism or any other breach of ethics is suspected during the review.
Inform the editor of any conflict of interest and withdraw from the review.
Responsibilities of the Publisher
The publisher guarantees the independence of editorial decisions and does not interfere in editorial processes. All costs of the journal are met by the publisher; the journal accepts no sponsorship or advertising, and editorial decisions may not be tied to any commercial or political gain.
Review Process
Submissions are first examined by the editorial board for compliance with the journal's scope and publication principles. Those found suitable undergo a preliminary check for template and style compliance and are screened for similarity. Manuscripts that pass are sent to at least two reviewers under double-blind peer review. Where the reports conflict, the manuscript may be sent to a third reviewer or the Editorial Board makes the final decision. Authors may object, with reasons, to reviewer comments they disagree with. All checks and evaluations are carried out and recorded through the DergiPark system.
Withdrawal of a Submission
An author may withdraw a manuscript under evaluation only at the preliminary check stage, by informing the editor of the reason. Withdrawal of a manuscript after peer review has begun is subject to the approval of the Editorial Board.
Plagiarism Detection Policy
All manuscripts are screened with Turnitin. The similarity index is expected to be below 20%; manuscripts found to contain uncited borrowing are rejected even when the index is below this threshold.
Submissions by Board Members
Manuscripts submitted by members of the journal's boards are evaluated under the same conditions as all others, with the member's editorial permissions suspended for that manuscript. No more than 20% of the articles published in a year may be authored by board members.
Artificial Intelligence Policy
AI tools may not be listed as authors and may not be cited as sources in footnotes or the bibliography.
Where such tools have been used for text generation, translation or language editing, the manuscript must state clearly which tool was used, at what stage and for what purpose. Authors upload the AI use declaration form at submission.
Authors must verify AI-generated content against the sources and bear full responsibility for it.
Editors and reviewers may not upload manuscripts under review to AI tools or have their reports produced by them.
Corrections and Retractions
For errors identified in published articles, a correction, retraction or expression of concern is issued in line with COPE guidelines. Retracted articles are not removed from the archive; they remain accessible, marked as retracted together with the reason.
Complaints and Appeals
Complaints and appeals concerning an error in a published article, suspected misconduct or editorial processes may be sent to the e-mail address of the article's handling editor. They are examined confidentially by the Editorial Board and the outcome is communicated to the complainant.
Fees, Open Access and Copyright
HADITH charges authors no submission, processing or publication fees. In addition, no payment is made to authors, editors or reviewers. All published articles are open access without embargo and are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence. Copyright remains with the authors. For details, see the Open Access Policy, Copyright Notice and Archiving Policy pages.
Policy Changes
The journal's publication policies are determined by the Editorial Board. Changes are announced on the journal's web page and apply to manuscripts submitted after the date of announcement.
