SÜT SIĞIRCILIĞINDA TEKNİK ETKİNLİK: STOKASTİK ETKİNLİK SINIRI YAKLAŞIMI

Abstract

Bu araştırma, Samsun ili Bafra ilçesinde süt sığırcılığı yapan tarım işletmelerinde etkinliğin ölçülmesini ve etkinsizliğin nedenlerinin belirlenmesini amaçlamıştır. Araştırmanın verileri,
tesadüfî örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak belirlenen 73 adet işletmeden elde edilmiştir. Teknik etkinlik ölçümleri Stokastik Etkinlik Sınırı yöntemi kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Analizde, beş girdiye ait veriler ile sekiz adet etkinsizliği açıklayan değişkene ait veriler kullanılmıştır. İşletmelerin ortalama teknik etkinlik düzeyleri %89 olarak tahmin edilmiştir. İşletmeler, girdi kullanımını %9
oranında azaltarak aynı çıktıyı elde edebilirler. Etkinsizliği açıklayan işletme sahibinin eğitim düzeyi, deneyimi, ve süt sağım tekniği değişkenlerinin katsayısı negatif ve istatistiksel olarak
anlamlı bulunmuştur. Buna karşın aile büyüklüğü değişkeni ile etkinsizlik arasında pozitif ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki tahmin edilmiştir. İşletmelerin teknik etkinlik düzeylerinin artması için işletme sahibinin eğitim düzeyinin artması, mesleki eğitimin arttırılması ve yayım faaliyetlerine önem verilmesi gerekmektedir.

TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY OF DAIRY CATTLE FARMS: A STOCHASTIC FRONTIER APPROACH

Abstract

The aims of the present research were to measure the technical efficiency of sample dairy farms and subsequently to explore determinants of technical inefficiency in the Bafra District of Samsun province, Turkey. Data used in the study was obtained from 73 farms selected by random sampling method using questionnaire. Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) was used to measure technical efficiency. Five inputs (forage feed, concentrate feed, labor, veterinary costs and other miscellaneous costs) and eight inefficiency variables (age of farm head, education level of farm head, experience of farm head, household size, cooperative or union membership, incentive premium, milking method and barn size) were used in the SFA. Research results revealed that the mean technical efficiency of the sample farms was 89%. The farms could reduce their input use by 11% without output reduction under prevailing technology. The variables of education level, experience and milking method negatively affected technical inefficiency and these variables statistically significant. However, household size showed a positive relationship with inefficiency and it was significant. The study suggested that raising the educational level of farmers, designing farmers’ occupational retraining and extension programs increase technical efficiency in the research area.
