Abstract
Legends are the folk narratives that responds to people's sense of curiosity and enable them to make sense of the incomprehensible. Legends, answers the question of "why?" that are formed in the human mind. The thoughts that occupy the human mind, such as the reason for the formation of a stone or where the name of a place comes from, find their answers with legends.
In this study, the rock legend, which is the most common legend in Anatolia, is emphasized. The Bride Rock Legend in Ardanuç region has been the subject of our study. Artvin- Ardanuç region is a very rich region in terms of folk narratives and folk traditions. However, in the studies carried out to date, no field research has been found on the Bride Rock Legend in Güleş Village of Ardanuç.
In the study, field research was conducted with the 26 village people by means of guided/unguided interview and observation method. The legend narratives compiled from the village people were written down and it was determined that the narratives consisted of two variants. These two variants are given as separate texts in the study. The motifs of these variants have been determined and it has been seen that the common point is the "stone cutting motif", and the "curse motif" is also included in one of the variants. The determination of two variants of a legend that has not been compiled by field research is important for our study.
