One of the most beautiful and easy ways to follow the historical process of weaving, which is in life in every period of humanity, is to benefit from the collections in museums. Considering the rapid wearing of weavings, it is important that they can survive centuries. In this respect, the fact that they are still available in the collections of museums gives them a privilege among other works.
In this context, the Çatma and Selimiye fabrics in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Museum collection are discussed. The fabrics’, which reflect the last period of Ottoman weaving, material, technique, ornamentation and usage were examined and grouped, and they are introduced by emphasizing its place in Ottoman fabric art. In addition, this study is aimed to be a start point to a catalog study of fabrics, which has not been done until today.
