Article Processing Charge (APC) Policy
In order to ensure the sustainability of editorial evaluation, peer-review management, and the journal’s publishing infrastructure, History Studies applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) within its publication processes. To meet international indexing standards and maintain scientific excellence, History Studies implements an "Article Processing Charge" (APC) policy. This fee is required to cover the costs of managing the peer-review process, editorial oversight, international indexing requirements, and the sustainability of digital archiving services.
Authors Based in Türkiye: For authors affiliated with institutions in Türkiye, the article processing charge is 15,000 TRY per manuscript.
International Authors: For authors affiliated with institutions outside of Türkiye, the processing charge is fixed at 1,000 USD.
Procedural and Ethical Guidelines
Peer-Review Management: The fee is charged to facilitate the rigorous peer-review and editorial management stages. Payment of the APC does not guarantee acceptance; all editorial decisions are made independently based on the merit of peer-review reports.
Affiliation Basis: The applicable fee is determined by the official institutional affiliation of the corresponding author.
Indexing Standards: These costs cover the technical infrastructure, meta-data optimization, and compliance measures required by global citation indices to enhance the visibility of published research.
All manuscripts submitted to the journal for publication are first subject to an initial editorial screening. An Article Processing Charge is required only for manuscripts that successfully pass this preliminary assessment and are deemed suitable to proceed to the peer-review stage. No fee is charged for manuscripts rejected at the initial screening stage.
Payment of the Article Processing Charge is mandatory for the initiation of the peer-review process, and fees paid at this stage are non-refundable. Payment of the APC does not, under any circumstances, imply acceptance of the manuscript for publication. All submissions are evaluated solely on the basis of scientific merit, originality, methodological rigour, and compliance with academic ethical standards.
For manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial screening, payment details, including the relevant IBAN, are communicated to the corresponding author via email. The peer-review process commences only after the payment procedure has been completed.
History Studies conducts its publication processes in full compliance with the principles and regulations set forth by the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK) concerning associate professorship applications. As explicitly stated in Article 44 of the September 2021 Associate Professorship Applications Frequently Asked Questions Document, processing fees collected during the manuscript submission process—regardless of acceptance or rejection—are considered valid within academic evaluation procedures and may be included in official declarations.
History Studies is committed to implementing its Article Processing Charge policy in accordance with the principles of transparency, academic ethics, and internationally recognised standards of scholarly publishing.
