The Relationship Between School Administrators' Open Leadership Characteristics and Teachers' Organizational Creativity

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between school administrators’ open leadership behaviors and teachers’ organizational creativity behaviors based on the opinions of primary and secondary school teachers working in the province of Balıkesir. The sample of the study consists of 372 teachers selected through convenience sampling among primary and secondary school teachers working in Altıeylül and Karesi districts of Balıkesir. In order to determine the level of teachers’ perceptions of open leadership, the Open Leadership Scale was used; to determine their level of organizational creativity, the Organizational Creativity Scale was utilized. The data collected through these instruments were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods, along with independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation and regression analyses.Teachers' perceptions of open leadership and their organizational creativity levels were examined in relation to variables such as gender, age, years of service, educational level of assignment, and teaching branch. The findings reveal that as teachers' age increases, their perception of open leadership also increases, whereas their organizational creativity decreases. Regarding the variable of years of service, more experienced teachers reported higher levels of open leadership perception but lower levels of organizational creativity.When analyzed in terms of the educational level of assignment, teachers working in primary schools demonstrated higher levels of both open leadership perception and organizational creativity. Similarly, regarding the branch variable, preschool and classroom teachers exhibited higher levels of both open leadership perception and organizational creativity compared to teachers in other branches.Furthermore, the study found a moderate, positive, and statistically significant relationship between school administrators’ open leadership behaviors and teachers’ organizational creativity. It was concluded that as school administrators’ open leadership behaviors increase, teachers’ organizational creativity also tends to increase.
