Meaning And Evaluation Of Social Validity Concept On An Application Example

Abstract

Social validity refers to the assessments of the importance, efficiency, suitability of an application and level of impact it has created. To identify the social validity of an application, it is required to evaluate the meaning of the objectives that are set out, suitability of the methods and processes used and the importance of the impacts that are created. The objective of this study is to provide an example by using the different data collection methods and different evaluation approaches for the social validity findings towards the a) social importance of the objectives, b) process applied, and c) the social importance of the impact that is created. For the purpose of determining the validity of research, the data has been collected with subjective measurement and social comparison approach. The data for the current research has been collected through semi-structured interview form and scales and has been categorized under three topics, namely the social importance of the objectives, the process applied, and the social importance of the impact that is created. Taking the social validity data findings into account, this study, which has been carried out both in the aspects of purpose, process, and the result, asserts that Check-In/Check-Out is a method/approach to be assessed in the creation of a solution to the active participation behaviors of the students.

Uygulama Örneği Üzerinden Sosyal Geçerlik Kavramının Anlamı ve Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Sosyal geçerlik, bir uygulamanın önemine, etkililiğine, uygunluğuna ve oluşturduğu etki düzeyine yönelik yapılan değerlendirmelerdir. Bir uygulamanın sosyal geçerliğini belirleyebilmek için belirlenen amaçların anlamlılığının, kullanılan yöntemlerin ve işlem sürecinin uygunluğunun ve oluşan etkilerin öneminin değerlendirilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı örnek çalışma üzerinden; a) amaçların sosyal önemine, b) uygulanan işlem sürecine ve c) oluşan etkinin sosyal önemine yönelik sosyal geçerlik bulgularının farklı değerlendirme yaklaşımları ve farklı veri toplama yöntemleri kullanılarak yorumlanmasına bir örnek sunmaktır. Araştırmanın sosyal geçerliliğini belirlemek amacıyla, öznel değerlendirme yaklaşımı ve sosyal karşılaştırma yaklaşımı ile veriler toplanmıştır. Araştırmada veriler, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ve ölçekler aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler amaçların sosyal önemine yönelik, uygulanan işlem sürecine yönelik ve oluşan etkilerin sosyal önemine yönelik olmak üzere üç başlık altında bulgulanmıştır. Çalışmadaki sosyal geçerlik verileri incelendiğinde hem amaç, hem süreç hem de sonuç bakımından gerçekleştirilen çalışma, öğrencilerin derse etkin katılım davranışlarına çözüm oluşturma aşamasında Check-In/Check-Out’un değerlendirmesi gereken bir yöntem/yaklaşım olduğunu öne çıkarmaktadır.
