Abstract

Aim: This study was carried out to determine the adaptation of individuals with intestinal ostomy to ostomy and the factors affecting them.
Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted with 71 patients who applied to the surgery department of a university hospital and had intestinal stoma for at least three months to two years. The data were collected using patient information form and the Ostomy Adjustment Inventory. For statistical analysis, number, percentage, average, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Walls tests were performed.
Results: In the study, of the patients with an average age of 56.62±13.39, 77.5% were female, 74.6% were married, 52.1% were high school graduates. It was determined that 83.2% of the patients had ostomy due to the diagnosis of cancer, 69.0% had an ostomy for less than a year, 62.0% were informed about ostomy opening before the procedure. It was determined that the anxiety scores of the subgroups of the Ostomy Adjustment Inventory of the patients were lower in the university graduates, and the social adjustment scores of the university graduates were higher.
Conclusion: In the study, the mean scores of the Ostomy Adjustment Inventory of the patients with ostomy and the subscale mean scores of the inventory found to be moderate.

Year 2021, , 75 - 84, 31.03.2021
https://doi.org/10.31125/hunhemsire.833584

Abstract

Bulgular: Çalışmada, yaş ortalaması 56.62±13.39 olan hastaların, %77.5’i kadın, %74.6’sı evli, %52.1’i lise mezunudur.
