Assessing Validity and Reliability of the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) for Nurses in Turkey

Year 2011, Volume: 18 Issue: 1, 14 - 27, 01.03.2011

Abstract

Aim: The aim of this methodological study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) for nurses in Turkey. Methods: Sample of this study consisted 97 unit charge nurses (UCN) and 98 staff nurses (observers) from two university hospitals. Data were collected through Nurses Data Sheet and LPI-Self and Observer. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Cronbach alpha coefficients were used to test three alternate models of transformational leadership. c2, Goodness of Fıt Index (GFI), Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Nonnormed Fit Index (NNFI) , Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR), and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) were used to evaluate the models. Results: Third model was found to have a good fit when χ2/df ≤ 2.0, fit indices (CFI, NNFI etc) ≥ .95, RMSEA ≤ .06, and SRMR ≤ .08. According to the χ2/df, fit indices, RMSEA, and SRMR values, third model provided better fit than the other models. The internal reliability of the LPI for nurses was 0,92 for leader and 0,97 for observer. Recommendations: When all of these values were taken into account, validity and reliability of the LPI Turkish version was found sufficient to measure nurses' leadership practices.

Türkiye'de Hemşireler için Liderlik Uygulamaları Envanterinin Geçerlilik ve Güvenirliğinin Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2011, Volume: 18 Issue: 1, 14 - 27, 01.03.2011
