Histological Evaluation of the Surgically-obtained Specimens over Eleven Years

Abstract

Objective: The results of the surgically-obtained specimens at Yüzüncü Yıl University Medical Faculty Ophthalmology Clinic over 11 years were evaluated. Material and Methods: Surgically-obtained specimens at the Ophthalmology Clinic was evaluated in a single pathology laboratory between 01.12.1995 and 30.06.2007 retrospectively. Results: A total of 186 surgically-obtained specimens were found. The most common area of histological diagnosis was the eyelids 112 specimens, 60.2% , followed by conjunctiva 63 specimens, 33.9% , uvea 4 specimens, 2.2% , caruncle 2 specimens, 1.1% , orbit 2 specimens, 1.1% , sclera 1 specimen, 0.5% , lacrimal drainage system 1 specimen, 0.5% , and retina 1 specimen, 0.5% . Of the specimens, 24 were malign, 5 were pre-malign, 37 were inflammatory, and 120 were benign processes. The distribution of the malign processes was as follows: Basal cell carcinoma was reported in 17 cases, squamous cell carcinoma in 9 cases, malign melanoma in 4 cases, lymphoma in 1 case, retinoblastoma in 1 case, basosquamous carcinoma in 1 case, and atypical fibroxanthoma in 1 case. Conclusion: Histological examination revealed probably life-threatening pathologies in 15.6% of cases

Abstract

Amaç: Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Göz Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı’nda yapılan operasyonlarda eksize edilen doku örneklerinin histolojik sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi. Gereç ve Yöntemler: 01.12.1995- 30.06.2007 tarihleri arasındaki yaklaşık 11 yıllık dönemde Anabilim Dalımız’da yapılan operasyonlarda eksize edilip patolojik tanı alan toplam doku örneklerinin sonuçları kayıtlardan alınarak incelendi. Bulgular: Çalışmada 186 örneğe patoloji tanı konduğu tespit edildi. En sık histolojik tanı alan bölge olan göz kapaklarını 112 doku örneği, %60,2 , konjonktiva 63 doku örneği, %33,9 , uvea 4 doku örneği, %2,2 , karunkül 2 doku örneği, %1,1 , orbita 2 doku örneği, %1,1 , sklera 1 doku örneği, %0,5 , lakrimal kanal 1 doku örneği, %0,5 , ve retina 1 doku örneği, %0,5 takip etti. Yapılan histolojik değerlendirmede 186 dokunun 24’ünde malign, 5’inde premalign, 37’sinde inflamatuar, ve 120’inde benign oluşum saptandı. Doku örneklerinin %15,6‘sında hayatı tehdit edebilen patolojiler tespit edildi. Malign oluşumların dağılımı şu şekildedir: Bazal hücreli karsinom 17 olguda, Skuamoz hücreli karsinom 9 olguda, malign melanom 4 olguda, bazoskuamöz karsinom 1 olguda, lenfoma 1 olguda, retinoblastom 1 olguda, ve atipik fibroksantom 1 olguda tespit edildi. Sonuç: Patolojik tanı alan doku örneklerinin % 15,6’sında hayatı tehdit edebilen patolojiler tespit edildi
