A Study on Anatomic and Histologic Structures of Magpie (Pica pica) Larynx and Trachea

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the general anatomical and histological structures of larynx and trachea in magpie (Pica pica). For this aim, a total of ten magpies larynx and trachea were assessed by macro-anatomic and histologic methods. In the study, obtained magpies larynx and trachea were fixed in 10% buffered formaldehyde solution. Fixed tissues were dehydrated in alcohol series, cleaned in xylene and embedded in paraffin blocks and paraffin blocks were cut and obtained 5-7 µm thickness of sections and sections were investigated histologically. It was detected that the larynx consisted of cartilago cricoidea, cartilago arytenoidea and cartilago procricoidea in magpie. It was observed that the trachea extended from larynx to syrinx and it consisted of 53-57 cartilago trachealis in magpie. In histologic analysis, it was seen that cartilago trachealis and two cartilages of larynx, cartilago cricoidea and catilago procricoidea were hyaline in type.

Saksağanda (Pica pica) Larynx ve Trachea Üzerinde Anatomik ve Histolojik Bir Çalışma

Abstract

Bu çalışma, saksağanda (Pica pica) larynx ve trachea’nın genel anatomik ve histolojik yapılarının ortaya konması amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışmada on adet saksağana ait larynx ve trachea makro-anatomik ve histolojik metotlarla değerlendirildi. Saksağanlardan elde edilen larynx ve trachea diseke edilerek %10'luk tamponlu formaldehit solüsyonuna alındı. Makroskobik olarak değerlendirilen organlar alkol ve ksilol serilerinden geçirilerek dehidratasyon ve şeffaflaştırma işlemlerinden sonra parafin bloklara gömüldü, 5-7 µm kalınlığında kesitler alınarak histolojik olarak incelendi. Saksağanda larynx’in cartilago cricoidea, cartilago arytenoidea ve cartilago procricoidea’dan oluştuğu tespit edildi. Trachea’nın larynx ve syrinx arasında uzandığı ve 53-57 adet cartilago trachealis’ten meydana geldiği belirlendi. Histolojik analizlerde cartilago trachealis’lerin ve larynx kıkırdaklarından cartilago cricoidea ve cartilago procricoidea’nın hyalin yapıda olduğu görüldü.
