Abstract

Bu çalışmada düvelerde prepartum dönemde yapılan vitamin E ve Se enjeksiyonunun postpartum dönemde görülen
retensiyo sekundinarum, puerperal akut metritis, puerperal mastitis ve postpartum östrüs görülme oranı üzerine etkisinin
araştırılması amaçlandı. Çalışma materyalini, İzmir ilinde özel bir damızlık süt sığırı işletmesinde bulunan 22-26 aylık yaşta,
104 damızlık holstein ırkı düve oluşturdu. Materyal olarak seçilen düveler 2 gruba ayrıldı. Uygulama grubundaki hayvanlara
(Grup 1, n=52), beklenen doğum tarihinden 10 gün önce vitamin E ve Se içeren preperat 15 ml intramuskuler olarak enjekte
edildi. Kontrol grubu hayvanlara (Grup 2, n=52) ise 5 ml izotonik NaCl enjekte edildi. Çalışma sonucunda uygulama grubu
düvelerin 3’ünde (%5.8) retensiyo sekundinarum tespit edilirken, kontrol grubunda ise 10 düvede (%19.2) retensiyo
sekundinarum tespit edildi.

Effect of Prepartum Treatment of Vitamin E and Selenium on Postpartum Reproductive Problems of Dairy Heifers

Year 2020, Volume: 9 Issue: 1, 24 - 28, 25.06.2020

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of prepartum vitamin E and Se injection in heifers on the rate of
retentio secundinarium, puerperal acute metritis, puerperal mastitis and postpartum oestrus seen in the postpartum
period. The material of the study was composed of 104 broodstock Holstein breed heifers (22-24 months of age) from a
dairy cattle farm in İzmir. These heifers were divided into 2 groups as study group (n: 52) and control group (n: 52). To study
group animals, 15 ml vitamin E and Se preparation was intramuscularly injected 10 days before the expected date of birth.
And to control group animals, 5 ml isotonic NaCl was intramuscularly injected. As a result of the study; retentio
secundinarum was detected in 3 (5.8%) of heifers in the application group, while retentio secundinarum was detected in 10
heifers (19.2%) in the control group. Clinical metritis rates were found to be statistically significantly higher in the control
group than 42.3% (n = 22) and 23.1% (n = 12). While the number of postpartum mastitis patients was 12 (23.1%) in the
application group, this number was 7 (13.5%) statistically insignificant in the control group. The number of heifers showing
oestrus within the postpartum 45 days was also statistically insignificant in the application and control groups, 17 (32.7%),
and 18 (34.6%), respectively. As a result of this study; It has been concluded that the application decreased the rate of
retentio secundinarum and puerperal metritis cases, but had no effect on the rate of puerperal mastitis and post-partum
oestrus.
