Abstract

Year 2022, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 298 - 311, 31.05.2022

Abstract

In this study, scenes, fiction and dialogues in Aftershock: Earthquake in New York movie, a Hollywood production, have been analyzed by considering some theoretical trends of the sub-discipline of sociology of disaster. In the analysis, where the movie is dealt as a text, themes such as “turning back to pre-disaster social order”, “disaster response and recovery phases”, “disaster, social solidarity and collective consciousness” have been bringing into question in the light of descriptive analysis and deconstructionist approach. The article is based heavily on the theoretical outputs of the sociology of disaster rather than theoretical and methodological outputs of communication science and media studies. Study claims to be the first inquiry of sociology of disaster on a cinema movie written in Turkish literature.
