An Evaluation of the Religious/Fıqhi (Islamic Jurisprudential) Questions Raised During the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes Through the Online Photovoice (OPV) Method
Abstract
This study aims to identify the religious and fıqhi (Islamic jurisprudential) questions that emerged and drew public attention during the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. As part of the research, participants were asked what the concept of “fiqh” evokes for them; the value they attribute to the science of fiqh in terms of belief, worship, and social relations; the extent to which they consult this discipline; and their opinions on the capacity of fiqh to contribute to the resolution of individual and societal problems. The data collection tool employed in the study was the “Online Photovoice (OPV)” technique and analyzed using the “Online Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (OIPA)” method. The research was conducted with a total of 139 participants, including 98 active students from the earthquake-affected region; however, the data analysis was carried out on 121 completed questionnaires. In order to reflect the findings as accurately as possible, the researcher enriched the collected data through feedback from volunteer university students who collaborated during the survey process. Furthermore, the findings were shared through online seminars and conferences, thereby supporting active social advocacy efforts. As a result of the study, 29 core themes have been identified under the main categories of belief, worship, social responsibility, religious guidance, and spiritual counseling. The findings indicate that, for a significant portion of society, religion functions as a secure refuge, while the science of fiqh is perceived as a reliable point of reference. Moreover, it is understood that fiqh assumes a guiding role at both individual and societal levels during the times of disaster.

Online Sesli Foto Yöntemi ile 2023 Kahramanmaraş Depremlerinde Sorgulanan Dinî/Fıkhî Sorular Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme
Öz
Bu çalışma, 2023 Kahramanmaraş depremleri sürecinde cevabı merak edilen dinî ve fıkhî soruların tespit edilmesini amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında katılımcılara, “fıkıh” kavramının onlara ne hatırlattığı; fıkıh ilminin inanç, ibadet ve toplumsal ilişkiler açısından kendileri için ifade ettiği değer; bu ilme başvuru düzeyleri ve fıkhın bireysel ve toplumsal problemlerin çözümüne katkı sağlama kapasitesi hakkındaki görüşleri sorulmuştur. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak “Online Sesli Foto (OSF)” tekniği kullanılmış; elde edilen verilerin analizi ise “Online Yorumlayıcı Fenomenolojik Analiz (OYFA)” yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma, deprem bölgesinde bulunan, 98’i aktif öğrenci olmak üzere toplam 139 kişinin katılımıyla yürütülmüş; ancak veri analizi 121 anket üzerinden yapılabilmiştir. Araştırmacı, bulguları en doğru biçimde yansıtabilmek amacıyla elde ettiği verileri, anket sürecinde iş birliği yaptığı gönüllü üniversite öğrencilerinden gelen geri bildirimlerle daha da zenginleştirmiştir. Ayrıca elde edilen bulgular online seminer ve konferanslar aracılığıyla paylaşılarak, aktif sosyal savunuculuk faaliyetleri de yürütülmüştür. Çalışma sonucunda, inanç, ibadet, sosyal sorumluluk, dinî rehberlik ve manevi danışmanlık gibi ana başlıklar altında toplanan 29 temel tema tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre, toplumun önemli bir kesimi için din, güvenli bir sığınak; fıkıh ilmi ise başvurulabilir bir kaynak olarak görülmekte ve afet süreçlerinde hem bireysel hem de toplumsal düzeyde yol gösterici bir işlev üstlendiği anlaşılmaktadır.
