Abstract

Determination of Fatty Acid Compositions of Some Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) Cultivars in Dry and Wet Conditions

Year 2023, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, 229 - 238, 21.08.2023
https://doi.org/10.24180/ijaws.1208463

Abstract

This research was carried out to determine the fatty acid composition of some safflower cultivars in wet and dry conditions in the growing seasons of 2019-2020, 2020-2021. The study was established in the experimental area of Harran University Faculty of Agriculture, Field Crops, in randomized blocks, in a split trial design with three replications. In the research, the main plots were wet-dry, and the sub-plots were varieties (Göktürk, Koç, Dinçer, Safir and Balcı). As a result of the study, myristic acid (c14:0), palmitic acid (c16:0), palmitoleic acid (c16:1) stearic acid (c18:0), oleic acid (c18:1), linoleic acid ( c18:2) and arachidic acid (c20:0) ratios were determined. As a result of the study, it was determined that the linoleic acid (c18:2) and palmitic acid (c16:0) ratios were higher in the irrigated varieties than the varieties grown in dry conditions, and in the second year of the study, linoleic acid formed more fatty acids than in the first year. In the second year of the study, the total ratio of unsaturated fatty acids (linoleic acid c18:2 + oleic acid c18:1) was found to be higher than in the first year. As a result, it would be appropriate to know the composition of fatty acids, which is one of the most important elements in the cultivation of oily plants, and to produce according to the determination of the quality and standard of the oil.
