Migration And Migration Dynamics in Türkiye: Panel Data Analysis at Level 2

Abstract

Migration is not merely the movement of people but also a phenomenon that plays a significant role in shaping economic, social, and cultural structures. Therefore, various factors, such as population, inflation, unemployment, healthcare, and education levels, influence the dynamics of migration. In this context, the aim of this study is to determine the short- and long-term effects of the dynamics influencing migration rates across Türkiye’s 26 NUTS-2 regions. For this purpose, the study employs panel ARDL analysis using data from 2008 to 2023. The dependent variable is the migration rate, while the explanatory variables include the population growth rate, inflation rate, unemployment rate, the number of higher education graduates, and the number of healthcare institutions. According to the findings, in the long term, a positive and statistically significant relationship exists between migration rate and variables such as population growth rate, inflation rate, unemployment rate, and the number of higher education graduates. However, a negative and statistically significant relationship has been identified between migration rate and the number of healthcare institutions.

Türkiye’de Göç ve Göç Dinamikleri: Düzey 2 Kapsamında Panel Veri Analizi

Abstract

Göç, sadece insanların yer değiştirmesi değil, aynı zamanda ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel yapıların şekillenmesinde önem taşıyan bir olgudur. Dolayısıyla, göçün dinamikleri üzerinde nüfus, enflasyon, işsizlik, sağlık ve eğitim düzeyleri gibi pek çok faktör etkili olmaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın amacı Türkiye’nin Düzey 2 yirmi altı alt bölge düzeyinde göç hızını etkileyen dinamiklerin hem uzun hem de kısa dönemde etkisini belirleyebilmektir. Bu amaçla çalışmada 2008-2023 dönemi verileri kullanılarak panel ARDL analiz yöntemi uygulanmıştır. Bağımlı değişken olarak göç hızı, açıklayıcı değişken olarak ise nüfus artış hızı, enflasyon, işsizlik oranı, yüksekokul mezun sayısı ve sağlık kurumları sayısı ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen bulgulara göre uzun dönemde göç hızı değişkeni üzerinde nüfus artış hızı, enflasyon oranı, işsizlik oranı ve yüksekokul mezun sayısı değişkenleri arasında pozitif ve istatistiki olarak anlamlı bir ilişki elde edilmiştir. Ancak göç hızı değişkeni ile sağlık kurumları sayısı arasında ise negatif ve istatistiki olarak anlamlı ilişkisi tespit edilmiştir.
