Examining Postgraduate Theses Using Qualitative Research Methods in the Field of Health Management

Abstract

Aim: To examine methodological characteristics and research trends of postgraduate theses using qualitative methods in the field of health management. Methods: The YÖKTEZ database was searched using the keywords “health institution management” and “qualitative.” A total of 98 theses were identified. Theses were evaluated through document review, content analysis, and grouped under three categories: Thesis Identity, Research Design, and Analysis Process. Results: Most theses were written in Turkish. Phenomenology and case study were the most common designs. Purposeful sampling was frequently used. Semi-structured interviews were the main data collection tool. Participant numbers ranged from 3 to 251. Interview periods ranged from 10 to 730 days. Content, descriptive, and thematic analysis were the most preferred methods. Many theses did not report pilot studies, researcher role, or validity and reliability procedures. Conclusion: Future theses should clearly report sampling and design choices, improve transparency in data collection and analysis, and give greater attention to trustworthiness in qualitative research.

Sağlık Yönetimi Alanında Nitel Araştırma Yöntemi Kullanılan Lisansüstü Tezlerin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Sağlık yönetimi alanında nitel yöntemler kullanılan lisansüstü tezlerin yöntemsel özelliklerini ve araştırma eğilimlerini incelemektir. Yöntem: YÖKTEZ veri tabanında “sağlık kurumları yönetimi” ve “nitel” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak tarama yapılmıştır. Toplam 98 tez belirlenmiştir. Tezler doküman incelemesi ve içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiş; bulgular Tez Kimliği, Araştırma Deseni ve Analiz Süreci olmak üzere üç başlık altında toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Tezlerin büyük bölümü Türkçe yazılmıştır. En yaygın araştırma desenleri fenomenoloji ve durum çalışmasıdır. Amaçlı örnekleme sıklıkla kullanılmıştır. En yaygın veri toplama aracı yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerdir. Katılımcı sayısı 3 ile 251 arasında değişmiştir. Görüşme süreleri 10 ile 730 gün arasında değişmiştir. En çok tercih edilen analiz yöntemleri içerik analizi, betimsel analiz ve tematik analizdir. Birçok tezde pilot çalışma, araştırmacı rolü, geçerlik ve güvenirlik süreçleri raporlanmamıştır. Sonuç: Gelecekte hazırlanacak tezlerde örnekleme ve araştırma deseni tercihleri açık biçimde raporlanmalı, veri toplama ve analiz süreçlerinde şeffaflık artırılmalı ve nitel araştırmalarda güvenilirliğe daha fazla önem verilmelidir.
