Balance your work and your life but in your mind, first

Abstract

Work-life balance, defined as an effective adjustment between private lives and professional lives, can manifest as work-life conflict once it cannot be achieved for various reasons, leading to serious problems in employees’ lives. That clarifies the significant impact of work-life balance on employees’ wellbeings and performance. Consequently, the literature underscores the importance of this balance, thereby prompting researchers to intensify their focus on the area and informing institutions and organisations about its necessity. However, current research suggests that work-life balance is not merely related to the volume of work employees undertake, but is also closely tied to the extent they mentally disengage from work during off-hours, known as ‘psychological detachment’. Even though the international literature, led by Sabine Sonnentag, offers substantial insights, a significant gap remains in the Turkish literature, which this article seeks to address and presents suggestions for potential studies in the conclusion. Thus, this paper introduces psychological detachment and offer some suggestions for the future avenues.

İşini ve hayatını dengele ama önce zihninde
