Tinnituslu Hastalar Serum Vitamin B12 Düzeylerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı tinnitusu olan hastaların serum Vitamin B12 düzeylerini belirlemek ve Vitamin B12 eksikliği ile tinnitus arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışmada 50 hastayı (yaş ortalaması: 49,98 S.D.:18,02; 25 kadın 25 erkek) ve kulak patolojisi olmayan 50 sağlıklı gönüllüyü (25 kadın, 25 erkek) değelendirdik. Tüm hasta ve kontrol grubunda genel fizik muayene sonrası laboratuvar kan analizleri ve odyolojik değerlendirmeler yapıldı. Serum Vitamin B12 düzeyi 180 pg/ml altında olan hastalar, Vitamin B12 eksikliği olarak değerlendirmeye alındı. Hasta grubuna odyometrik inceleme yapıldı ve her iki kulak 500-4000 Hz ortalama işitme değerleri hesaplandı.
Bulgular: Hasta grubunda tinnitusun %72 oranında ( %34 sağ, %38 sol) tek taraflı olduğu tespit edildi. %28 oranında ise çift taraflı olduğu tespit edildi. Tinnitusu olan hastaların 16’sı düşük, 34’ü normal Vitamin B12 düzeylerine sahipti. Kontrol grubu Vitamin B12 seviyeleri ile arasında istatiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark tespit edildi (p=0,025)
Sonuç: Bu çalışma, serum Vitamin B12 eksikliğinin tinnitus fizyopatolojisinde rolü olabileceğini göstermektedir. Tinnitus etyolojisi oldukça değişken olması sebebiyle, daha falza çalışmaya ihyitaç duyulmaktadır.

Examination Of Serum Vitamin B12 Levels in Patients With Tinnitus

Abstract

ABSTRACT
Objective: This study aims to determine serum vitamin B12 levels in patients with tinnitus and to examine the relationship between vitamin B12 deficiency and tinnitus.
Material and Methods: In this study, we evaluated 50 patients (mean age: 49.98, S.D.: 18.02; 25 women, 25 men) and 50 healthy volunteers (25 women, 25 men) without ear pathology. After general physical examination, laboratory blood analyses and audiological evaluations were performed in all patient and control groups. Patients with serum vitamin B12 levels below 180 pg/mL were assessed as having a, vitamin B12 deficiency. Audiometric examinations were performed on the patient group, and average hearing values for frequencies ranging from 500 to 4000 Hz in both ears were calculated.
Results: In the patient group, tinnitus was found to be unilateral in 52% of cases (28% on the right, 24% on the left) and bilateral in 48% of cases. Among patients with tinnitus, 16 had low vitamin B12 levels, while 34 had normal vitamin B12 levels. In the control group, vitamin B12 levels were low in 4 individuals and normal in 36 individuals. A statistically significant difference was found between the vitamin B12 levels of the control group and the patient group (p=0.02).
Conclusion: This study shows that serum vitamin B12 deficiency may have a role in the pathophysiology of tinnitus. Since the etiology of tinnitus is quite variable, more studies are needed.
