Özet 

Manipülasyon, eski çağlara dayanan ve çeşitli hastalıkların tedavisinde kullanılan bir manuel terapi yöntemidir.  Manipülasyon, kökenlerini, omurilik bozuklukları da dahil olmak üzere çeşitli kas-iskelet sistemi rahatsızlıklarını tedavi etmek için kullanıldığı dünyanın birçok yerindeki paralel gelişmelerden alır. Hipokrat (460-385 BCE), eklemlerle ilgili kitaplarında, skolyoz tedavisi için gravite kullanarak spinal manipülatif teknikleri tanımlayan ilk doktordu.  Galen ve Avicenna, eserlerinde Hipokratın bu çalışmalarına yer vermişlerdir. Manipülasyon mevcut sağlık hizmetlerinde önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Manuel terapinin sağlık hizmetlerinde gelecekteki rolü önemli bir araştırma alanıdır. Manipülasyon 19. Yüzyılın ikinci yarısında osteopati ve kayropraktik olmak üzere iki önde gelen alternatif sağlık bakım sisteminin temelini oluşturdu. Bu dönemde spinal manipülasyonun uygulanması çeşitli meslekler arasında problem yaratmıştır. Bu manuel terapi yönteminin gelişmesinde, çeşitli meslek gruplarındaki öncü kişilerin katkısı büyüktür.  Fizyoterapistler o zamandan beri alana güçlü katkılar sağlamış, böylece mesleğin yasal olarak düzenlenmiş uygulama alanı içinde manuel terapiye sahip olma iddiasını sağlamlaştırmıştır.

The Role of Physiotherapists in the Historical Development of Manipulation as a Manual Therapy Method

Abstract

Manual therapy has been an approach in the management of patients with various disorders dating back to ancient times and continues to play a significant role in current health care. Manipulation takes its origin from parallel developments in many parts of the world where it is used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal disorders, including spinal cord disorders. Hippocrates (460-385 BCE) was the first physician to describe spinal manipulative techniques using gravity to treat scoliosis. In the works of Galen and Avicenna, they mentioned about this work of Hippocrates. The future role of manual therapy in health care is an important area of research. Manipulation In the second half of the 19th century, osteopathy and chiropractic were the basis of the alternative health care system. In this period, the application of spinal manipulation caused problems among various professions. In the development of this manual therapy method, pioneers in various occupational groups have a great contribution. Physical therapists have since then provided strong contributions to the field, thereby solidifying the profession’s claim to have manipulative therapy within in its legally regulated scope of practice.
