Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the premenstrual syndrome specific quality of life of female nursing students and to examine the factors that affect this quality of life.
Material and Method: The study is a descriptive cross-sectional research conducted with female nursing students from the Faculty of Health Sciences at two public universities. Data were collected using the "Descriptive Characteristics Form" and the "Premenstrüel Syndrome-Specific Quality of Life Scale." The data analysis was performed using SPSS software, and correlation analysis, variance analysis, and regression analyses were applied.
Results: The mean premenstrüel syndrome-specific quality of life score of the 556 students was found to be 54.57±15.46. Income level, regular eating habits, age at menarche, and psychological discomforts experienced during the premenstrüel period were found to have a significant impact on the students' PMS-specific quality of life (p<0.05). However, factors such as the students' age, body mass index, grade level, marital status, and other factors did not have a significant effect on their quality of life.
Conclusion: The premenstrüel syndrome-specific quality of life of nursing students is influenced by various factors. According to the research findings, income level, age at menarche, and psychological discomforts experienced during the premenstrüel period significantly affect the quality of life. Regular eating habits, however, were found not to have a significant impact on premenstrüel quality of life. These findings suggest that the effects of premenstrüel syndrome may vary depending on personal and socio-economic factors.
Keywords: Nursing students, premenstrual syndrome, quality of life, women.
