İşlevselci, Yapısalcı ve Gelişimsel Perspektiflerden Yiyecek ve Yeme Olgusu

Abstract

Yiyecek, toplumsal yapı ve ilişkilerin anlaşılmasında önemli bir olgudur. Yeme alışkanlıkları din, kimlik, sınıf, etnik köken, aile yapısı, yaş ve cinsiyet gibi toplumsal farklılıkları hem yansıtan hem de şekillendiren pratiklerdir. Yemek, sadece bireysel bir deneyim değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal bir olgudur; çünkü bireysel olan her şey toplumsal olanla ilişkilidir. Günümüzde teknolojik ilerlemeler, sosyal medyanın yaygınlaşması, endüstrileşme, kentleşme, küreselleşme ve turizmin artmasıyla birlikte gıda konusu, etik, ekolojik, hayvan hakları ve toplumsal cinsiyet gibi boyutların yanı sıra sağlık, politik, ekonomik, tarihsel, sosyal ve kültürel açılardan da önem kazanmış ve akademinin ilgi alanlarından biri hâline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada yiyecek ve yeme olgusu işlevselci, yapısalcı ve gelişimsel yaklaşımlar bağlamında öncü teorisyenlerin görüşleri üzerinden ele alınmaktadır. Çalışma, bu üç temel yaklaşım çerçevesinde antropolojik araştırmalardan da yararlanarak, disiplinler arası ve sosyolojik bir perspektifle yiyecek ve yeme olgusuna ilişkin literatürdeki kuramsal bilgi ve çalışmaları derlemeyi hedeflemektedir. Ayrıca, söz konusu yaklaşımları karşılaştırmalı, sistematik ve bütüncül bir çerçevede ele alarak, yemek sosyolojisi literatürüne ve gelecekte bu alanda yapılacak çalışmalara teorik bir katkı sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.

Food and Eating from Functionalist, Structuralist, and Developmental Perspectives

Abstract

Food is an important phenomenon in understanding social structures and relationships. Eating habits are practices that both reflect and shape social differences such as religion, identity, class, ethnicity, family structure, age, and gender. Food is not only an individual experience but also a social phenomenon, because everything individual is connected to the social. Today, with technological advancements, the widespread use of social media, industrialization, urbanization, globalization, and the increase in tourism, the issue of food has gained importance not only in terms of ethics, ecology, animal rights, and gender, but also from health, political, economic, historical, social, and cultural perspectives, becoming one of the areas of interest in academia. In this study, the phenomenon of food and eating is examined through the perspectives of pioneering theorists within the context of functionalist, structuralist, and developmental approaches. The study aims, within the framework of these three main approaches and drawing also on anthropological research, to compile the theoretical knowledge and studies in the literature on the phenomenon of food and eating from an interdisciplinary and sociological perspective. Moreover, it aims to provide a theoretical contribution to the literature on the sociology of food and to future studies in the field by examining these approaches in a comparative, systematic, and holistic framework.
