Plagiarism Policy

Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Law Journal aims to ensure that scientific research in the field of law is published in accordance with the principles of academic integrity, impartiality, transparency, and adherence to ethical values.

1. Ethical Principles

1.1. Responsibilities of Authors

• Authors declare that the submitted work is original, has not been previously published, and is not under review in another journal.
• Authors must provide proper citations for all sources used and act in compliance with scientific integrity.
• All listed authors must have made an active academic contribution to the research, and the order of authorship should reflect the level of contribution.

1.2. Responsibilities of Editors

• Editors evaluate submissions solely based on their scientific merit. In cases of suspected ethical violation or plagiarism, editors may conduct an investigation and suspend or withdraw the article from the review process.

1.3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

• Reviewers are obliged to inform the editor if they detect any suspicion of an ethical breach in the manuscript.

2. Plagiarism Policy

2.1. Similarity Check

• All submissions are screened during the preliminary review stage using the program https://tr.turnitin.com
• When necessary, manuscripts may be rechecked using iThenticate or Intihal.net software.
• The Editor-in-Chief, field editors, or associate editors reserve the right to perform similarity checks at any stage of the publication process.




• The overall similarity rate (excluding references, footnotes, direct quotations, and legislative texts) must not exceed 20%.
• Articles with a similarity rate above 20% are returned to the author(s) without being sent for peer review.
• The similarity rate from any single source must not exceed 3%.
• Similarities arising from legislation or case law are evaluated proportionally at the editor’s discretion.

2.3. Detection and Procedure of Plagiarism

• In cases where plagiarism or ethical misconduct is detected, the author(s) are notified, and the manuscript is removed from the evaluation process.
• If the violation is discovered after publication, the article will be retracted, and the situation will be publicly announced.

3. Ethics Committees and Procedures

• Ethical review processes are conducted in strict confidentiality.
• Files concerning ethical violations are archived in accordance with confidentiality principles.
• When necessary, cases are referred to the Istanbul Medeniyet University Social and Human Sciences Research and Publication Ethics Committee.
• In cases of confirmed ethical violations, disciplinary, administrative, and legal actions are initiated within the framework of the relevant regulations.
• Ethical violation decisions are reported to the Council of Higher Education (Yükseköğretim Kurulu) pursuant to Article 10/5 of the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive for Higher Education Institutions.

4. Enforcement and Execution

The provisions of this Policy are implemented and executed by the Editorial Board of the Istanbul Medeniyet University Faculty of Law Journal.
