Abstract

The aim of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis to identify academic trends, prominent themes, and key research focuses regarding the concept of sustainable consumption. Sustainable consumption has a broad impact ranging from environmental policies to digital marketing strategies, making it important to understand the development process in the literature and guide future research. This study examines the current state of the literature on sustainable consumption through the distribution of publications over time, interdisciplinary interactions, citations, and keywords. The research includes a bibliometric analysis of 712 publications published between 2002 and 2024 that contain the keyword "sustainable consumption" in the Web of Science (WoS) database. The analysis, conducted using the VOSviewer program, facilitates the mapping of the literature from various perspectives, including publication counts over time, distribution of publications by disciplines, publication types and counts, distribution of publications by countries, annual citation analysis, examination of publications based on citation counts, citation network analysis, publication counts by journals, keyword co-occurrence network, and an analysis of studies conducted in Turkey. The study also includes an analysis of works in the social sciences from an interdisciplinary perspective. The analyses reveal an increasing trend in the literature on sustainable consumption since 2002, with the highest number of publications in this field recorded in 2024. Furthermore, it was found that studies on sustainable consumption are predominantly located in the field of social sciences, with the most significant contributions from China, the United States, and Germany. It was observed that Turkey has a lower number of publications on this subject. The bibliometric analysis highlights the increasing presence of key concepts related to sustainable consumption in the literature and demonstrates the growing importance of the topic.

Sürdürülebilir Tüketim Literatürüne Bibliyometrik Bir Bakış: Eğilimler, Temalar ve Gelecek Yönelimler

Year 2025, Volume: 14 Issue: 1, 453 - 476, 30.06.2025
