Abstract

Thanks

Çalışmaya katılım göstererek katkıda bulunan bütün öğrencilere teşekkür ederiz.

Determination of Mental Health Literacy Level of University Students

Year 2024, Volume: 12 Issue: 2, 657 - 668, 20.06.2024

Abstract

This study aimed to determine mental health literacy level of university students. This study was conducted as a descriptive study. The study was completed with the participation of 277 students studying at a university. An online Personal Information Form and the Mental Health Literacy (MHL) Scale were used to collect the data. SPSS 26.0 was used for data analysis. 277 university students participated in the study. The mean age of the students participating in the study was 21.88±2.90 and 82.3% were female. 32.4% of the students were first-year students, 80.5% were undergraduate students and 69% were studying in a department related to health sciences. 20.2% of the students received education related to mental health. The mean MHL total score of the students was found to be 14.97±3.50. The mean scores of knowledge-oriented, belief-oriented, and resource-oriented MHL were 8.18±1.74, 4.42±2.05, and 2.37±1.48, respectively. University students have high knowledge-oriented mental health literacy, negative belief-oriented mental health literacy, and moderate resource-oriented mental health literacy. In general, the mental health literacy of university students, especially belief-oriented mental health literacy, is not at an adequate level. It is recommended that comprehensive training programs should be organized for all students.
