This study attemps for a semiotic review to First Violin Concerto (op.77) of Shostakovich. Thus, it can be evaluated many signs, symbols that reveal the musical character of the concerto and also their meanings in the music. His longtime collaborator Yevgeny Mravinsky said that "Shostakovich very often explained his intentions with very specific images and connotations (Wilson. 1994:139).
Combined his composition and musical style with his maturity and deep philosophy, First Violin Concerto of Shostakovich is among the privileged violin concertos. First Violin Concerto (1947-48) has a remarkable structure as its form, style, violin interpretation and musical expression. Briefly, Musical materials, composing style from this concerto and those Shostakovich wants to reveal by its musical expression has been evaluated in the light of a semiotic analysis.
