Litera: Journal of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, the official publication of Istanbul University, Faculty of Letters, Department of Western Languages and Literatures, is an open access, double-blind peer-reviewed, multilingual, scholarly and international journal published two times a year in June and December. It was founded in 1954.
Litera: Journal of Language, Literature and Culture Studies provides an intellectual forum for exploring issues mainly in literature, art and culture. The objective of the Journal is to publish theoretical and critical articles in literary and cultural studies. Multidisciplinary approaches that focus on or include discussions of Western literatures and cultures are encouraged. The target group of the Journal consists of academics, researchers, graduate students, and related professional and academic bodies and institutions.
There are no article processing charges or submission fees for submitted or accepted articles, all expenses of the journal are covered by Istanbul University. http://litera.istanbul.edu.tr/en/content/about/open-access-statement
Litera is open to submissions twice a year, for a one-month period each, beginning May 1 and November 1. After each submission deadline, manuscripts undergo a month-long initial screening by the editorial team, and the peer-review process starts for manuscripts deemed suitable for the journal.
Due to the high demand for our journal, multiple submissions (during the same submission period) from the same author(s) are not accepted. Similarly, for another article by the same author(s) to be evaluated and published again, authors should wait at least 2 years (4 issues) following their last published article in the journal.
Submissions will only be considered for initial screening if all listed authors hold a PhD.
During November 2025, Litera will accept submissions for the June 2026 and December 2026 issues.
