The Phono-Semantic Metamorphosis of the Words That Passed From Turkish to Romanian
Abstract
Throughout history, besides the economical, social, political and
cultural interactions seen between the Turkish and the Romanian
communities, interactions have been seen in language as well. Because each interaction is made through language. During this interaction, the
sound characteristics of the words that passed from Turkish to
Romanian were subjected to a change according to the grammar of the
Romanian language.
These words, which are derived from Turkish, were not modified at
the phonic level only; changes in the meaning were also seen when
they passed to Romanian. As a result of the semantic and phonic
changes in these words, the process known as phono-semantic
metamorphosis occurs. In the examples that we will analyze in this
study, we will try to determine which sound events lead to phonosemantic
metamorphosis.
