Abstract

Abstract

This experimental study examines the tribological performance of poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) polymer, which is one of the high performance engineering plastics, against AISI 304 stainless steel disc under dry sliding conditions. Tribological tests were carried out on a pin-on-disc wear test machine under high applied pressures of 1.77, 3.54, 5.30 and 8.84MPa and at high sliding speeds of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0m/s. According to the wear test results, the friction coefficient and wear rate values increased with the increase in sliding speed values. While low P.V values were obtained at low load and sliding speeds, it was determined that the P.V factor increased with increasing load and sliding speed. In general, in the pressure and sliding speed ranges used in the experiments, the friction coefficient was obtained between 0.17 and 0.39, while the wear rate varied between 5.2×10-15 and 21.4×10-15 m2/N. While abrasive wear mechanism observed in PEEK polymer at high P.V values, adhesive wear mechanism observed at low P.V values.
