Abstract

A RESEARCH ON THE USE OF ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING (ERP) SYSTEMS IN THE TURKISH CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Year 2020, Volume: 8 Issue: 4, 1099 - 1112, 25.12.2020

Abstract

Turkish construction companies should manage their projects with more effective systems to maintain the sustainable performance of construction industry. Therefore, construction companies’ interest and needs in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are increasing to meet this requirement. Especially in the last few years, many construction companies have invested in ERP systems however a considerable part of these investments result in failure. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the difficulties that Turkish construction companies are facing while using ERP systems and to offer solutions for more successful implementations. In line with this purpose, a survey was conducted with 62 Turkish construction companies that have adapted ERP systems. Then, suggestions were made for construction companies to achieve success in ERP adaptation. The proposed solutions will not only be useful in providing the necessary infrastructure for construction companies that want to implement ERP systems and to prepare a suitable roadmap, but also will contribute to the sustainable performance of the Turkish construction industry by increasing the global competitiveness of Turkish construction companies.
